I can only speak on behalf of their USED vehicles, so it's possible someone buying a new vehicle will have a completely different experience. However, I would not recommend Power World for anything used. We bought a used snowmobile from them over the summer of 2020, for our teenage son, directly from the owner (Joe Kelley), who assured us that everything had been tested and checked out, including pressure tests on the pistons. The sled appeared to be in good condition, but obviously could not be driven anywhere, since it was the middle of the summer. It was then properly put in storage until winter.
After getting it ready for the winter season, we took it out for our first trail ride once there was finally enough snow. The snowmobile engine DIED after only about 3 miles on it's first use. It lost all power and would no longer start. We then had to tow it back. We immediately informed them of the issue. Power World could not even look at it for several weeks because of a lack of staff. Once it was brought in, it took them nearly a month to figure out that one of the cylinders had completely burned out, while the other was on the verge of failing too (clearly they never did a pressure test as indicated previously!!). Any decent shop would have determined the engine issues within a day, NOT an entire month. This meant the cylinders had to be rebuilt, along with new pistons needed. This was a very common 15 yr old sled, so parts should not have been that difficult to find with a small amount of effort. Of course PW could not find them, another month later. So the existing parts had to be sent in to a custom repair shop for rebuilding because PW couldn't figure out any other options. Another month passed by, with almost no feedback. And as usual, the only progress made by PW was when I called incessantly for any updates. They would rarely return phone calls or even answer the phone, and they ALWAYS had excuses for the constant delays (not their fault of course). In short, by the time we got our sled back, the season was already over, and we had no way to see if their repairs even worked in the first place..
After selling us a defunct snowmobile, and taking over 3 months to fix it, they NEVER apologized or even offered any significant discounts. The repairs ended up being the same price as the entire sled. It wasn't until afterwards that I learned that PW has a terrible reputation amongst the locals I know, while many avoid the place altogether. I would ascertain that most of the positive reviews on here are new customers buying new vehicles, NOT returning customers with used ones. The new owner of PW is very friendly, BUT it's still suffering from it's old problems of poor customer service and terrible reliability. Again, buying a new vehicle from PW might be a totally opposite experience, since newer ones are often easier to fix and still under warranty. But PW clearly doesn't know how to properly fix or maintain anything used or older, so you'd be wise to avoid them, especially if you don't live around the area. They rarely have enough mechanics on staff to fix anything. There are plenty of dealers along the front range that sell far more reliable vehicles, and would almost certainly be able to repair your vehicle before you miss an entire season, unlike PW. We had planned to eventually buy new snowmobiles in the near future, after our son had gained more riding experience. But after this fiasco, we won't be doing business with PW again. They could make a lot of money by having a highly reputable service center for the area, since there are few around, but the current owner is almost entirely focused on pushing new stuff out the door instead. Everything else is an afterthought, and once you've bought anything from them, you're no longer worth their time or attention. Worse yet, their sales and service departments don't communicate at all. The owner, Joe Kelley, has a tendency to attack negative reviewers, rather than apologizing for bad service. Again, if you're looking for something used,...
Read moreDon’t buy anything from Power World sports in Granby, CO. I saw a 2012 ski-doo Summit 800 on their website and called, joe said that the was some front end damage and when I asked if an estimate for repairs had been done and he said “yes, it’s about $1,000”. I live 5 hours away and made the drive to look at it. When I got there the service dept. was closed so I couldn’t make a deal including repairs so I made a deal $1000 under their asking price. They were even saying that looking at it it may even only need a motor mount bracket, about a $200 part. I took them for their word and bought the machine and took it home and dropped it at my local Ski-Doo dealer and had them do an estimate on the repairs. My local dealer estimated that it needed about $1500 in parts and $800 in labor to repair. It needed a full S and E Module, left shock and all the related items. I called Power World and they changed their story and said it was too costly to send it thru the shop and that they mis-spoke when they said they had done an estimate. They explained to me that since the shop is run separately from sales that they don’t go to the expense of inspecting their used machines before they sell them. But they did sell me the parts at cost.
Once work started it was discovered that the motor case was cracked at the motor mount, so the engine had to be pulled, opened up and welded. When they opened it the pistons had groves and most the reeds had long cracks and all needed replaced. This added $800 in parts and labor to the bill.
Even with getting the parts at cost I will have over $2600 in repairs and Powerworld won’t do a thing for me.
Don’t trust what these guys say, just head over the hill to steamboat, the Ski-Doo dealer there sells...
Read moreWe purchased an ATV here last year and bought the service plan as well. We had a great experience with our original purchase. Staff members took time to help us get exactly what we needed. However, I wanted especially to comment on the great customer service we just received when we brought our machine in for a routine service. We had rented a trailer from a location on the front range to transport the ATV to Power World. We noticed the trailer was prone to rocking above about 45 mph but we figured it was not a big deal. Staff told us we could also store the trailer at Power World, which we appreciated because it was a bear to tow. When we picked up the ATV, we found the trailer had a flat. A staff member, Kyle, helped us examine the tire and we found it was old and the rubber had shredded apart to expose the interior metal cords. Kyle went way out of his way to help us with the situation. He found a replacement tire and priced it out for us. He also spoke to the rental place for us and negotiated them into purchasing the tire so we didn’t have to pay for it and then try to be reimbursed. I can’t express how appreciative I am for Kyle’s assistance. We will definitely keep bringing our business to...
