Hello I want to write about my concerns I felt this way last summer and now again this summer. My son has attended GJ Parks and Rec camp for 2 summers in a row. The young kids they have watching them seem to have very little skills in watching and dealing with children and I honestly don't feel like my son is safe at Grand Junction summer camp. He has told me multiple times no one watches them when they're in the pool my mother went to pick him up today and it took them 30 minutes to find my son at the pool and that is terrifying. This is not the first time. They make them walk long distances with little to no water breaks and Shout Out them to walk faster. The parks and rec should not have them walking miles to places for activities it is not safe in the Heat and some kids cannot handle the heat and have the endurance to make these long walks it is very unpractical and very unsafe with traffic and these little teenagers that are supposed to be watching them. I don't feel like like my son is safe at Camp unless he's at one of the centers all day instead of walking around town or swimming in the pool where no Camp people know where he's at or what he's doing or making sure that other campers are not shoving him underwater like it happens all the time and he tells me. There is so many safety concerns about the Grand Junction Parks and Rec and I really feel like you need more experienced Camp leaders and to reevaluate your hot summer trips you make these kids walk on not to mention the process of always showing up to pick your kid up and then never knowing where your kid is is absolutely terrifying. I spend most of my days at work wondering if I'm going to get a horrible call from the camp saying that my son is either lost or got hurt at the swimming pool because of their lack of supervision.
I am extremely disappointed and hurt by the lack of care of the staff and for the Parks and Rec to even have their reputation on such an unstructured Summer camp that is run supposedly...
Read moreOUTSTANDING customer service, and very quick response times! I called because I wanted to sign my child up in one of their programs, but of course, I was 2 weeks past the registration deadline, which was obviously my fault! But I thought I’d reach out to see if there was any small chance they could still fit us in. Not only did they go above and beyond to accept us into the program (huge shout out to Shon, who kept up communication with me via calls and emails, despite the fact that he wasn’t even supposed to be working at that time. He was supposed to be on his previously approved personal time off, yet he took the time to help me out, even after realizing that I had missed the deadline). If that isn’t dedication and customer service, I don’t know what is!
Furthermore, I had a great experience talking with the front desk team! They were polite and incredibly helpful and took the time to answer all of my questions.
Now, all of the above is plenty of reasons enough for me to be so grateful and appreciative, but it gets even better! I had mentioned a specific team/coach we were looking to work with, but I figured there was no way I would get my hopes up about that, I was honestly just thrilled that they were able to fit us into the program at all! Well, low and behold, I was notified the NEXT DAY that not only were we in the program, but they got us on the team we had mentioned, with the coach of our preference!!
There are no words to describe the joy that has been radiating from my kiddo ever since I delivered the good news… and that’s the best feeling in the world! I can’t say enough positive things about my experience so far, and I’m very much looking forward to working with GJ Parks and Rec...
Read moreCold as ice to me almost, name calling galore, and I am just trying to get a job! Have spent quality time playing, in many city parks. _especially basketball, you know. Have always cleaned up after myself, and I do not make a mess, although not perfect this year. I hated the litter, until I got used to it. And their are oil stains, in the parking lots. I think Grand Junction needs, to hire some personnel, for$10.50/hour, to clean up bus stops (G.V. transit ones), sidewalks, restore rock landscapes, and police to give tickets, if they spot a resident littering, or throwing a shake/ or Coke, on the rocks. There is a pollution problem, that our residents breathe, especially, at Grand, and 1st Avenue, (or Wal_Mart/North Street, u know). The parks are okay. We need to have their square area, permanently, u know what I mean. Person desires a few hours, of down time, in a park... Lincoln Park offers 8, or 9 things to do, including exercise options, and perfect swimming pool, in...
