Place was nice, clean, good parking but I give it 2 stars because of the experience we encountered. My husband pass by this place daily and always thought to take our daughters when they come to Dallas on vacation. It was a sunday night, everything was going nicely until our daughters since they do not know how to skate, were being harrassed by acouple of the "pro" skaters. First there was a guy that everytime he passed by the beginners that were all holding themselves by a wall, he would pass by them really close as to make one of them slip and fall. My husband and I was watching everything going on. Then one of our daughters fell and one of the guys (not from staff) yeld at her to leave the rink. She came to us, but did not say anything. This same guy came to her to tell her that her sorry for screaming at her but that she needed to be careful. Our daughter does not speak english and I moved to ask him what he was telling her but left. Once again the girls kept skating, we advised them to go to the middle since we saw that, that was a safer area since the "Pros" skate all around the rink. They ended up getting to the other side of the rink were there are benches and sat. The same guy that screamed at them came up to them and said; "she's trying me", one of my daughters understood and answered back. There was a lady next to them and told my daughters that they always do that because the "pros" want to rink to themselves. Our daughters came to us very upset and explained what happed. I saw the guy and went to him to ask what was his problem and he said that he works as security and that night the "pro" skaters were having a competition and that our daughters were skating too slow and getting in the way of "everyone". I told him they were not the only ones in the rink that did not know how to skate, but were the only ones being harrassed by them. We had paid same as everyone to have a good time and they were not permiting that. We decided to leave but not with out talking to the manager who was the person at front. We gave him our complaint and told him he had bullies on the roller rink stating they were security, we pointed to guy out and as expected he was not part of the staff nor security. Apparently its not the first time, since he new who we were talking about. He said he would talk to him and make sure it would not happen again. I'm not to sure of that since it obviously looks like these "pro" skaters own the rink and if you are not if their group, they try to get you out. We will no longer visit this place, nor recommend it. And its sad since the place is nice, and the rink was awesome. But we did not...
Read moreCons: The website does not make the actual price to come in clear, so expect to pay more than you thought you would The maplewood skate floor is rocky at best and certain portions are unskatable. Underneath the benches on the floor contained heaps of trash that could have easily been swept up. A the skate counter, the man that gave out skates didnt say a word to me for the 4 interactions I went up to him. Did not ask shoe size, just held his hand out for a ticket and looked at me expectantly. Could not be bothered to even interact with me. At the snack bar, the girl had headphones in and was generally unpleasant to talk to. She did not seem to care about anything, only her phone. The Golden Horse skates do not seem like they have had any love in years. The skate I was given had tight trucks that didnt turn in the back and loose trucks in the front. It was genuinely a terrible experience to skate on, even after I had swapped the rental skates with another pair. Again, was met with silence when I brought the issue up to the man behind the skate counter.
Neutral Music was alright. The good music mixing in with kids music and weird random jumps to music that did not fit the vibe was jarring, but half of the songs were decent enough to skate to. AC worked wonders when we first arrived, but got worse over time. To be fair, this could just be because more bodies = a hotter rink, but it could have been managed slightly better. Bathrooms only had 3(ish) stalls and were extremely cramped, but the sink was new and looked nice.
Pros Pro shop was heavily stocked and had plenty of options that other rinks do not have. The laces were a great highlight!
Overall, I would not come back here again besides for social skates. The pros do not outweigh the many cons...
Read moreI planned my birthday party there and due to inclement weather in the forecast 4 days prior to my party date I asked to reschedule. I explained that my guest consisted of my parents and younger family members and due to the projected weather, I did not want to take a chance of them trying to get out on the roads in snow and ice. The owners declined my request and expressed I waited too late to reschedule and they could have booked another party in my place. He stated that I can wait till the day of the party and see if THEY are closed and if THEY are closed then I may reschedule my party. I questioned why I was not able to heed the alert of the forecast and the manager stated we live in Texas and probably not really going to snow. Again I expressed the proper way of scheduling and planning a event is if you know in advance something that will alter you party that is out of my control, like the weather, I should be letting my guest know in as much advance notice as possible and not the day of the event, if THEY are open. Needless to say we did not come to a arrangement and due to their business practice I advised to cancel my party altogether. Well. It did snow and froze over, as forecasted!!! I really felt like a dollar sign to them and they were not concerned about proper party planning, their guest safety, and only focused on they could not replace my party at the last min so due to weather, I was at their mercy on if they were open I still was going to be expected to have my party regardless if my guest could come or not due to weather. It was solely based on if they were open..SMH. They will not get another dollar out...
