I started going to the James Salon in Fort Collins in 2012. Went for a few years and moved. After getting lousy hair cuts elsewhere, I decided I needed to go back to Aveda. I was going to go back to the James Salon but found my stylist moved/ transfered south. Although she would come up to For Collins on occasions. Then one day close to 2021, I went to make an appointment and saw the Ft Collins store closed. Went to a different Aveda. Then I moved to Greeley and didnt even realize there was a James Salon HERE!!! I was so excited. My first stylist was Alex and she did an amazing job. Although...with every single salon I visit...I can never tell if I like my hair till I try to style at home. And I ALWAYS return within 2 days for a "touch up". Even when I went to quick haircut stores like Super Cuts or Great Clips. Its nothing against the stylists. My hair has been thinning over the years and I am VERY self consious of it. If I cant style it to hide my thinning, I return within only a couple days. I also let my stylists know, I may be back. Sure enough...I was back in Alex's chair a couple days later LOL. A year later (May 2025) I waited too long to schedule to come in before my sons graduation. Alex was booked so I took another "fresh talent". Im not going to go into detail but when I got home, I was called a "Karen" by both my husband and son. I was in a panic. My other sons graduation was in 2 days. I called back later (after hours) in tears. I left a voicemail and the next morning they called and got me in that day with Master Stylist Casey (KC?). She completely reshaped and transformed my chopped and bobbed hair into something so beautiful...I fell in love with that short of a style. The other day, I tried to book again with her but she was booked out till October...so, obviously, I booked with Alex because I trust her. Let me also say...its been over a year since she highlighted my hair and it really still looks great. Today she just applied a shampoo toner to brighten up my hair (Im trying to transition to embrace my greying hair). She cut my hair and already knows I might be back. I hope not but if I am...she knows and they hold no judgement of my pickiness. I will forever be going to James Salon...just like I started to in 2012...thanks to my best friend that insisted we only go to Aveda. Well, and because her daughter was/is an Aveda stylist. Now...she has been a master stylist for several years now and owns her own salon as of this year (2025). If only she were closer so I could get my hair done for free LOL. Thank you Alex and Casey (or is it KC). Also, the receptionist is SOOOOOOOOOOOO friendly. I cant remember her name...but I will remember next time. Love and hugs...
Read moreI went to James on (4/5/18) to get my hair dyed for my wedding. I chose red and blond highlights. The 1st stylist I saw (Casey) did not let me know that red hair will bleed, I didn't know there were specific details and care when it came to red hair dye. A lot of the red washed out of my hair days before my wedding so I called and they said to come in for a consult. I talked to a Janet and we worked something out so I could come back to have the red put in again, (because I didn't want a different color) They were so concerned about Casey getting the "credit" for my color, that they didn't even care about MY schedule. Then they only let me do a "rough dry" when I went in for my color correction. They seriously care more about using 15 minutes of electricity than their customers! The 2nd stylist (Shania, who was wonderful btw) did tell me (as did janet) that the red will bleed, but not indefinitely. I expected the bleeding to stop after a handful of washes, but it hasn't. Even after using their recommendation of taking cold showers, cool air blow drying, & buying the right shampoo. The day of my color correction I I did purchase the Aveda color protect shampoo and conditioner (travel size, then purchased the full size bottles at a separate location when) My hair is still bleeding out. It is not red anymore, it's more of a dark pink/auburn/maroon. I'm not sure what the deal is, but it is frustrating, especially because I spent $245 including my tip and eyebrow wax. Not sure why everyone rants and raves about this being the best beauty parlor, but after having Ulta do my hairstyle and makeup I will definitely go there for any future hair dyes I may do. I would be very selective if you choose to go here.. Make sure you do research before changing your hair because not everyone will give you the details they should. Last time I went to James I had blond highlights and didn't...
Read moreI recently scheduled a consultation for a color correction. I had to schedule the consult a couple of weeks out because our schedules didn't align, but I was okay with that. I was clear on the phone in the beginning that I wanted to be scheduled with a higher level stylist and the scheduler was able to accommodate at that time. Over the course of those two weeks I received multiple reminders confirming the appointment. Two days before the appointment I received a voicemail asking if I could meet with stylist #2 instead and change the time of my appointment due to a "scheduling error." I called back saying I was able to do so, but wanted to confirm that stylist #2 was a higher level stylist. They informed me I would instead be meeting with stylist #3 who is a newer stylist. When I asked again to be scheduled with a higher level stylist due to the complexity of a color correction they said it was more important to get me in sooner and assured me stylist #3 would have someone to consult with during my appointment should she have any questions. When it came time for my appointment it seemed like stylist #3 did not know how to do a color correction as all of her (my) questions were directed to stylist #4, whom I basically did the consult with from across the room as she was working on another guest. Stylist #4 encouraged stylist #3 to schedule me when stylist #4 was also there to make sure they could consult during my color correction. Not only did I not have confidence that my color correction would turn out well due to this interaction, I also did not feel comfortable potentially impacting another future guest's appointment if my stylist needed help with my hair. Needless to say, my whole experience was disorganized and disappointing. I'm hoping this was just a one-off situation given all of the other positive reviews...
