I have enjoyed a lot about this big Y over the 20 years that Iāve been going to it. It is provided the food on my familyās table even when I was a little child. I still plan on shopping here, but there is one person that has now ruined the experience for me. Thereās a girl with very interesting hair that is brown (best way I can describe her) who works in the self checkout aisle.
Today, we went to go pick up some champagne for our Thanksgiving dinner and we always get this stuff at big Y in Greenfield. Iām 31 years old and my wife is 27. I was able to produce an ID, but my wife was not able to because she forgot it at her work. This lady snatched the bottles of champagne away from us simply because my wife did not have her ID. I get the rules⦠but we were treated as if we were a couple of 15-year-olds trying to sneak alcohol by somebody. The check out lady was not nice about it. My wife works two minutes away, so I brought her back to work after our lunch hour. I then went back a little later and tried to buy them again single-handedly this time and was still refused the sale. I explained to them that my wife was just dropped off back at her work and my car is 25 yards away in the parking lot to prove that she is not with me. She was nasty and responded with āyou can get the manager if you have a problemā¦ā so I did that. The manager was much nicer to deal with but said that I could not buy this alcohol for the rest of the day and should ājust go to Ryan and Caseyās next timeā (Local alcohol store) unless she is with me with her ID.
The manager placed the alcohol bottles up at the checkout by customer service. I ended up calling my wife to have her come with her ID just so that we could get what we always get every year and so that we could move on with our lives. I let the manager know how disrespectful this encounter was, but obviously, he didnāt really care either.
I would highly recommend to Big Y that they look at how they train employees in this encounter regarding how alcohol can be purchased and for them to execute a little bit more realistic discretion when somebody comes in next time with this issue. Hopefully we will be treated better and not like a couple of 15-year-olds trying to...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreExtremely courteous staff, all very friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. As soon as you walk threw the door you feel as your shopping at your families local grocery store.
Not only do they always have the best deals and low prices in town over any other grocery store, they also offer the American freedom of choice when it comes to bagging your groceries. It's not like other stores in other towns that only offer consumers paper bags that destroy the rainforests and easily rip, or "re-usable" ones that you can use if you remember to bring them in. They actually offer real re-usable bags that were invented for the soul purpose of saving the rainforests, not only that but they are reusable at home as well for unlimited uses, they don't cost extra like the other supposedly "re-usable" ones that serve no other purpose than what they were bought for (or very limited other uses), and they are extremely helpful to the handicapped community that isn't able to carry lightweight non-handled paper bags.
This store is a great place to shop, for the family environment, the savings, and to catering to the needs of ALL community members, even the handicapped and elderly. You won't find any other store where you receive all of that under one roof in Greenfield other than at BigY.
(Side note) Other BigY stores in other towns didn't take away the freedoms of choice when it comes to paper or plastic. The stores that don't cater to the needs of all have had to follow to the town bylaws put in place by minority extremists that don't care about the needs of others but just themselves, and we must not hold these stores accountable for others bad choices. Don't give up on The Land of The Free yet, we may see things get better in...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIt upsets me to write this review with only one star, because up until this point im usually very pleased with the services at this location. However this review needs to placed for the services i received when ordering a decent amount of party balloons, and not just the basic balloons but the more elaborate decorative ones. When placing my order the clerk seemed annoyed with the amount of balloons that i was ordering, sighing impatiently, with short answers rude in tone with my questions. After placing the order i said thank you, and with no response the clerk turned and just walked away. When arriving to pick up my order there was a different clerk who cashed me out, friendlier but unaware of the order i had made, and explained that she "believed " they were all set and that they were tied to the weights with the strings. Perfect i thought! Until it was time to set up the party, grabbing the stings as directed i opened the bags containing the balloons only to discover the only a few of my balloons were tied, an a good number of my balloons including the more expensive had escaped to float off into the sky! We scrambled to catch the remaining and cautious to open the other bags inside now! This clerk did not do her job, and seemed annoyed at the task of basic balloons. And the second although not the one to place the order should have confirmed before having me leave! This experience was very disappointing because for any important event these inconveniences will make me place orders elsewhere for the poor customer service and poor product...
