Someone like myself with over $30k worth of fish. I would have to double think unless the fish were marked way down so that they could be quarantined and treated before releasing to any of my 30 tanks. As of 08/25/18, any South Americans purchased should be quarantined and treated for bacterial infections and ick before placing the fish in a community tank. My wife and I travel the east coast, Florida to New York visiting fish stores and discus shows. Our ratings are based off of quality of fish, customer service, price, fish in stock and in-store aquarium setups. Giving One star for being friendly, one star for the fish offered - great assortment. Quality of fish, the first thing that was seen. All of the South American fish were ate up with ick, basically, the fish were sick and would easily contaminate any aquarium if they were brought home. The Blue Acaras were the worse (white spots everywhere), though seeing that the filtration was a shared filtration system. All fish were ill of the sickness. The Discus fish were in pretty bad health as well. Exhibiting signs of Hexamitiasis or some other bacterial infection. More than likely due to the cross contamination of the filtration system. Discus should never share filtration outside of its own species, which were asians that were offered at Oceans Floor. Water was very cold no where near 82 to 88 degrees which discus require. Which more than likely causing the ill fish. Price, compared to other brick and mortar stores. Blue Acaras, 35% too high, Discus priced 200% too high for the size. Electric Blue Jacks, 60% too high for the size/age. Especially due to the high death rate of Electric Blue Jacks during their first 6 months of life. Electric Blue Jacks have a high mortality rate due to their blue jean genetics. Didn't make it past the South Americans as you are greeted first with these tanks. My wife and I saw enough. We have given worse reviews in the past, but hopefully things will improve. We love that there is a fish store within 20 minutes from Spartanburg, normally we have to travel to Gastonia, NC for decent fish. With the best offering of fish close to Spartanburg being in Augusta, GA. Great looking store, great people, but the fish were...
Read moreDrove down to their store from Asheville after checking their store hours on both FB and Google maps to verify that they were indeed open until 6pm. Got there shortly before 3pm planning on dropping $1000 on marine livestock. Although there were close to a dozen employees? on site, no one could make themselves available until after my having been there for 10 minutes, and only to be told they were closing early due to the upcoming holiday. This is what things have come to when you deal deal with millennial wannabe hippies. Looks like I’ll be going to Nemo’s with my cash. Will not be retuning to this shop under current management.
In regard to my negative review I left on Saturday, other than FB or Google maps, I don’t know where else I might have gone to find your ‘amended’ hours. As far as who I spoke to, I can tell you I didn’t get the opportunity to speak to anyone, as most of the employees were too engrossed in there own conversations to assist me. The only attention given was to the door where other customers were trying to gain access and being turned away. Your folks might benefit from a lesson in customer relations. Checking on your hours for the day in question and being under the impression I had plenty of time, I ended up burning 3 hrs and driving 150+ miles only to be turned away upon arrival. I must admit, after getting just a glimpse of your operation, I was impressed with your offerings but sadly, I will not support a business which demonstrates such poor customer relations. Such a shame! Btw, was going to leave this follow-up message on your FB Messenger, but now your FB page will not open...
Read moreI have mixed feelings about this place. On one hand they do have a great selection of freshwater fish and has lots of cool decor to put in tanks. I still am the proud owner of two pea puffers that I got from them. However, I cannot say the same for their saltwater fish. We have had the misfortune of having them die and our tank has never had an issue until we bought from them. Plus, not all employees are nice and I even had one man say "I cannot catch the fish no can do." Something doesn't add up because to me a fish store associate should have no problem catching a fish. Customer service all depends on who is working and could be a lot better. Some are very kind, and others are snooty and just straight up rude to you when you ask questions. Go here for freshwater fish but I would advise being real cautious when it comes to their saltwater fish.
Edit: Yesterday everyone was just super cool and friendly to talk to. And the one guy at check out even took out my water for me. That made me super happy. For that, I will give you guys 4 stars. But my advice is to please quarantine or at least triple check on caring for some of your saltwater stock as some of them worried me and looked maybe sickly. I really am not trying to raise a stink but I just think this is one area that needs to be...
