Holiday 2024 at the Chef's Table was AMAZING Garrett was the best server, his entire team took care of the lot of us from drinks, starters, dinner to dessert we wanted for NOTHING and he kept smiling and made us feel like anything was doable
FOOD Starters bang bang shrimp đ¤ and crab đŚ cakes we shared (read: stuffed ourselves) 3 orders of each (with leftovers) for 10 people Entrees Everyone was going nuts over their dishes from short ribs, shrimp n grits, chicken, and salmon to the filets. My prize was black n blue consisting of two of the most tender (3 is an option) filets with more mouth watering crab cakes topped with perfect buttery gently spiced bearnaise sauce and rich mashed potatoes and I substituted Brussels for the asparagus - it was crispy and crunchy goodness Desserts I think I heard Angela sing when I ate every heavenly bite of the pumpkin bread pudding with cinnamon pecan ice cream was other worldly - the candied pecans on top were OVER the top literally. Others were going on about the chocolate volcano and the cheesecake but I went nuts for the pecan dessert (I heard the cobbler is a MUST TRY - so needless to say, I'll be back AGAIN SOON)đ the sweet tea was perfection and washed everything down. I remember several folks making positive comments about the splits, cocktails, and beers. Another UNFORGETTABLE culinary feast! Thanks Garrett and the ENTIRE City Range family for your hospitality and impeccable service and sumptuous repast!
This pre theatre dinner warranted a STANDING OVATION in my book!!! Food: I had the Bourbon Chicken with pecans, mash, and blistered brussel sprouts. It was DIVINE! As for the rest of the table the pork chop was the most popular dish of the night - apparently it's on a "special seasonal menu" which I had to ask for but was happily provided. Nearly everyone took half their meal for later. The garlic butter on that bread is WICKEDLY DECADENT (worth the extra Pilates) Atmosphere: My Mama included me in a large party of her friends and we had a wonderful time. Our table was ready and it was ample room for all 8 of us. We felt warmed by the fire but like we were in a private area as the booth was cozy. Service: our server was friendly, professional, and helpful. She managed everyone's (sometimes confusing) requests. Price/Value: The servings were generous. Location: This truly is the midtown location on Haywood Rd near 385 across from the Mall. Tip- The bar area looked like fun and they offer nibbles on promotion -if their entrees are ANY indication of their bar food then you are in good hands Recommendation - Make a reservation for a romantic table by the fireplace or for the...

We decided to dine early. Were seated about 5:30PM on a weeknight. Dimly lit/could not read menu. Server spoke REALLY fast. One would think after being told to repeat oneself SLOWLY several times a server would actually slow down to a normal conversational pace. Not this guy...
Told him I would have to take the menu to the MENS ROOM where is sufficient lighting... (No accommodation made.) My wife finally found a flash light in her bag so we were examining our menus one at a time. In the mean time the server was back THREE TIMES asking us if we were ready to order.... Finally had to tell the guy when he saw our CLOSED menus on the EDGE OF THE TABLE we would be ready. (We seemed to be getting 'the bums rush.' As if they wanted us gone so they could seat the next wave of customers...)
OK, we order. Speedy was back in a flash with our salads. Unfortunately, the salad dressings were WRONG. Server was back in another flash with new salads. They were nothing great. As if somebody shook refrigerator store chopped salad greens out of a bag into the bowls. No tomato or onion in salads.
And in HALF a FLASH he returned with our steaks... We had taken 2 bites of salad and there were our steaks getting cold as we finished salads. We like lemon juice on our beef and we only had to remind server TWICE (3 separate visits) to bring us LEMON...
The steaks were overcooked and flavorless. Told the server we wanted to speak to the manager. He seems to come out of his trance and ask "Like, WHY???" I replied, "Like, the food's NO GOOD. AND LIKE, I said we WANT TO SPEAK TO THE MANAGER, LIKE* RIGHT NOW!!!
about 6 minutes later the manager appeared. He apologized for the food and the service and said he would PERSONALLY supervise the preparation of new steaks. They arrived via same server and were tough and overcooked.... (A PATTERN IS EMERGING HERE). Manager was out again. Apologized profusely. Offered us free appetizers while they prepared us THE TWO BEST steaks in the house...
We replied, NO THANKS. LOST OUR APPETITES. Manager offers us certificates for a free meal. We say, "Thanks but NO THANKS!" = Then the waiter returns with a bill for 2 SALADS. I write on it *"NO CHARGE. =the MANAGER." and we leave.
= "Sometimes you even pay for WHAT YOU...

This time, the appetizer was excellent (I got the crab Souffle) but the entree was average at best (I got the crab Cakes, with succotash and asparagus). The crab Cakes were not flavorful, and a bit fishy almost. The succotash was bland and the asparagus was average.
This was the main problem with my experience last night: me and my friend walked in at 9:35. The server, while friendly began her introduction by saying that they closed in 20 minutes. My friend, who was sat first, asked the host if it was OK for us to sit down with 25 minutes to close. He apologized to the host for coming in a bit late and the host insisted it was fine and that we have a seat. We found this server telling us that they are closing soon to be very rude, and basically interpeted this to mean that we needed to hurry up.
Me and my friend have both worked in restaurants and understand that it can be frustrating when people walk in at 2 minutes until close, 5 minutes to close, and maybe even 10 minutes to close. But 25 minutes until close has never been an issue to restaurants. Indeed, even when people walked in at 2 minutes until close, my manager would have been shocked and very angry had he heard me say something about us closing soon. We always treated customers graciously and with the best service no matter what time it was.
Anyway, we never got any bread that is usually given out last night, and the server placed the check on the table not long at all after we got our entree. She never asked if we wanted them seperate (which we did). She never asked if we wanted dessert (which we did but didn't ask because we already felt we were not wanted to stay there any longer) The server was only as attentive as she had to be. My drink needed refilling and she was too busy doing side work to notice until far longer than was necessary. She was very fake in her hospitality--and guests can always tell genuine hospitality from forced smiles and Curt remarks.
I expect more from a slightly upscale restaurant like this. Hopefully this will be an isolated incident.
New update as of April 5, 2019: GM never responded to my email....
