I recently visited A & M Couture with hopes of renting a dress for my daughter’s upcoming photo shoot. Since she opted for a vacation instead of a traditional party, we thought a photo shoot would be a meaningful way to celebrate. Prior to visiting the store, I reached out via phone and messenger to inquire about price ranges and rental requirements, but was told they do not provide that information over the phone or online which was already a bit frustrating.
Upon arriving (30 minutes early), my daughter needed to use the restroom. Despite her politely asking multiple times in both English and Spanish, she was ignored until what seemed to be the owner had to raise her voice to allow her to use the bathroom. That set a strange tone for the visit.
When asked what date the event was, I explained that we were flexible since it was just for a photo shoot and would schedule around the dress availability. The response I received was curt and unaccommodating she insisted that I must have a set date, and when I asked if we could work around availability, she flat-out refused and wouldn’t even allow my daughter to try on dresses at first.
After some back and forth, my daughter selected three dresses to try on. When I asked for the prices of the selected options, I was told each one was over $650. I was a bit shocked since we were only renting for a photo shoot, but decided to ask what was available around the $400 range. The options shown in that price range were very limited and honestly unappealing to my daughter. Eventually, I agreed to the higher rental price so she could try on the dresses, and I will say she looked absolutely stunning. The assistant helping with the fitting was helpful, though her demeanor felt a bit abrasive and she seemed to be micromanaging others in the store.
Once we selected a dress, I was told the rental is for 5 days and includes the dress, crown, and bouquet. When I asked if the price could be reduced since we were only using it for one day, I was told no. Then I asked if a deposit could be made instead of paying the full amount upfront, and again was told no and was then informed of a $250 refundable deposit due at pickup. This was never mentioned prior and felt like an unnecessary surprise. Had I known all these requirements beforehand, the entire process would have been smoother and more respectful of everyone’s time.
As someone who has never rented a dress before, I would have appreciated more transparency, especially since I asked specific questions before booking the appointment. A clear breakdown of pricing, rental timelines, required deposits, and policies over the phone or via message would have been simple customer service basics. Unfortunately, the lack of communication and the overall unwelcoming tone from some staff left me disappointed.
While the dresses are beautiful and my daughter was happy with the final look, the overall experience felt unnecessarily difficult. For anyone that is like me and hasn’t gone out to do rentals note a date is required to rent a dress, price range for a beautiful dress I would say starts at 650 but they do have lower prices, and a deposit is required. Also there are kind workers at the facility just the one that assisted me...
Read moreVery unprofessional, the service was horrible. There are 2 ladies both very rude and made me feel rushed, with very poor communication skills. They don’t listen to the customer request. I’m extremely disappointed.
@ A&M To your response: that is inaccurate, I treated you and your employee very respectfully, you both on the contrary to me. I understand that the store was packed, and that’s why I explained to her and to you but both of you wouldn’t listen. I didn’t need for them to try the dresses that Saturday. I had girls coming from far to get measurements, I could have only one try it on another day during the week. But she was rude and rushed me. She didn’t want to offer the service she insisted I needed to pick the dress without trying it on not even on one girl. Didn’t let me talk, wouldn’t listen both of you, you were stressed out and when you own or have a business like that you need to be able to keep it calm and respectful towards clients. You are right everyone deserves respect and I and my girls do too. You were dismissive towards us. You need to have better customers service skills, listen to the customer. I just wanted to get them measured and pay for a deposit then come back at another time and chose the dress once at least one of the girls have try on and we see how it fits. I was patiently waiting didn’t rushed you. You lost business. PINK HOUSE BOUTIQUE was able to accommodate they listened to me and we were able to do the business just because they were cordial and listen to what I wanted and were able to Accommodate. My daughter is having a big party and we are dealing with a lot the least you and your staff should do is have some courtesy. I went there with five girls that came for measurements not trials and you disregarded them like they were not there. I wish you luck in your business, but if anyone is looking for quinceañera dresses and looking for a place that will take some burden off your shoulder instead of rush you and judge you and not listen, go to PINK HOUSE BOUTIQUE in Passaic they have beautiful dresses, wonderful staff, totally different experience! And it shows the type of person you are how you treated me yesterday, you judge me just because I told you I bought the dresses in China. The dresses I bought were not cheap, very similar to the ones in your store 😅 and even your dresses come from china, you even said it. What type of store owner would say something like that you don’t know me and don’t know the type of party I’m throwing. God bless you, but try to educate your self, before you deal with the public. Please customers read this lady response and see what you are singing up for when dealing...
Read moreThe first 2 photos are from 11/23/24 when we said “Yes to the dress” and the last 3 are from the day of the party. I decided to rent the dress instead of purchasing it, bc honestly, after the party, what do you even do with this dress? The day I picked it Sara (the lady that was helping me) informed me that the same dress is being rented the weekend before my event and that it will be dry cleaned and ready for pick up Friday 1/17/25. I’m an hour away from Hackensack, when I arrived to pick up the dress, the zipper was broken and I had to come back to pick up the dress later on that day. When I picked it up, I specifically asked if there was anything I needed to know to put the dress on. I was told no. The day of the event I was mortified on how it looked on my daughter. The breast area on the dress must have gotten ruined during dry cleaning bc it was sagging, there was no support. When I return the dress to show the lady my photos and ask what happened to the dress, she was very dismissive, rude and said “you didn’t put the dress on high enough.” But from the photos, you can see in the back, i literally couldn’t put the dress...
