Visited Half Moon Bay in May 2019, love the Pacific Coastline CA-1 Highway, a beautiful drive along the coast. Made an effort, stopped by Ink Spell for the first time and loved it. The day I was there, saw a canvas print outside the windowsill display and knew I have to have it and that does not happen often I see something I like-love so much, it's one of those items that it's love at first sight. I think it was priced at $11.99 or $12.99. School kids were inside the store that day, kindergarten/1st and 2nd graders, the kids were so cute-adorable, sat down with their teachers read some books. It was a perfect visit for me, this store win my heart by a furlong, love the wooden staircase to reach the 2nd floor filled with books. The main floor is cool, fun-interesting bookmarks, all sorts of books and selections, the store lighting is nice and a very inviting atmosphere. The second I walked in, I knew I felt welcomed. They've fun message ceramic mugs, a small selection of jewelry display racks, puzzles, games for all ages and for general public audiences. I purchased "Lean On Me" canvas print, left the store with great delight as I stepped foot out the doorway of this cutesy-very interesting bookstore. I'd highly recommend this store if you ever stop in Half Moon Bay,...
Read moreWhile I was in Half Moon Bay downtown and neighborhood community, I stomped on this classic bookstore and knew I had to go in and check in out.
A clean, good lighting and a welcome vibe once I set foot to the store. There is a 2nd level of books. I was on the main floor looking through various fictional books, sci-fi category, children's books, bookmarks and gifts by the cash register.
The staff were friendly and helpful. While I was there, there was a small group of school children visiting the bookstore. It may have been a fieldtrip.
I saw this wood panel hangy picture of "Lean on Me" and the explanation of the lyrics were written on the back side of the panel. Lean on Me was a 70s song sung by Bill Withers. I asked the store employee to retrieve it out of the window display and purchased it, brought it back to Utah. It's one of the coolest decor timeless picture. A must have.
The time was joyful all awhile I was there. I saw Snoop Dog's cookbook, that got my attention, ha! I also bought a Curious George book to bring back to Utah. I visited 5/2019, since that time, the bookstore moved to a...
Read moreWe first came here after a trip to Pigeon Point Lighthouse. My husband was looking for John McPhee books and I was just poking around. The problem with McPhee is that he can be listed in almost any nonfiction section because he writes on so many different subjects! We haven't had much luck at other used bookstores in the Bay Area because the employees usually halfheartedly suggest a couple sections to look in and then leave us to our own devices. Not here! The young woman at the counter looked McPhee up in their computer, found the half-dozen sections in which they carried his books, and ran ALL OVER the store to help my husband find them and choose the books he hadn't already read. Thanks, Ink Spell! You made his day! We've returned since then and they've always been helpful; last time they made sure we knew about a special sale, and I had a nice chat about Tanya Huff with a different clerk. I love this store.
(P. S. If you're mapping this, Ink Spell is on Purissima Street, NOT Purissima Way! You'll get lost if you...
