This is my local Guitar Center. I go in there from time to time to just jam on a guitar that I might be interested in, their electronic drum kits and sometimes their basses.
The employees are great and have never given me an issue except for one time While I was playing an electronic drum kit. I didn't realize they had a class going on and drums are not my main instrument. When I play I hit the drums hard! To me that's what they are made for. However, while playing I was starting to get into it more and more. So, I kind of started hitting the drums even harder lol.
After about 10 minutes of me playing without realizing what's going on, an employee politely came up and he asked if I could not be as loud. He said that they don't care if I play at all or how long I play, but they had someone taking lessons and they couldn't hear because of my drumming. Which I apologized and complied with what he had asked me.
With that being said, when sitting down at the electronic drum kit, the volume and everything was already set up. When I sat down, I did change the style and tried different kits but I didn't touch the volume from how it was set. After playing for a little bit more I decided to stop and then I went to the main section I belong to and then I played some guitar(s).
I must say the employees at this location are very knowledgeable, professional, laid back and very customer service driven. Since moving back down to South Fla in 202, I have spent quite a bit of time and more importantly spent a lot of money at this store. I would highly recommend purchasing from here due to the environment and the staff!
PLEASE READ THIS SECTION!!! Here are some tips to make sure you get everything you need!!
*Don't be afraid to try things out and ask questions though! *If your going to drop a bunch of money on something do yourself a favor, make at least 1/2 a day if not a day out of it. *Go play whatever it is and make sure it feels good, inspires you and is something that you will end up playing more and not collecting dust in a corner.
Last thing, if your buying a Guitar, then find an amp on the floor that you have and test it. If your amp isn't there find one close enough to it. *If it's an amp or a pedal your purchasing, grab a guitar similar to yours and test it out!!!
From what I have seen, too many people either walk in and just go to the item they have been thinking about pick up the guitar, bass or drums and buy it. Please don't be that person. Take the time to sit down and try it out first !!!! They have all of their stores set up the way they are for a reason, if you didn't know lol. Make the time to go and try it out!!
Finally, ask questions! The staff is knowledgeable if you don't know something ask! Who cares if it's something you would consider stupid, just ask them that's what they are there for. If they don't have the right answer they will point you to someone who does. You can also ask more than one employee or even ask a customer. With that being said though remember everybody plays instruments differently, some will gravitate towards certain brands or gear and some stay away from certain brands altogether. Just keep it in mind because, that doesn't mean that you absolutely have to buy that particular brand or gear! After all it's your money, you do control how you spend it. Always go with your gut and how the thing feels, plays and sounds. Looks are not important, brand name is no important (unless it says First Act hahaha).
Just remember, If you played an instrument like a Squier or Epiphone for 30 minutes and it felt great, you were inspired and felt like you played great but then you decided to go pick up a Fender or a Gibson to play. While playing and a couple mins go by, it feels different and you feel like you can't play the thing. Well then, that's a sign! Just because it's cheaper, smaller less distinguished or a different brand you're used to. Well that doesn't mean anything, especially...
Read moreI really do like this location as it's the biggest one in the area, the flagship location in the region as far as I can tell and the company is trying to turn things around. I want to preface by saying the staff is very friendly and helpful but the staff here really needs to take ownership of their departments, specifically pro audio department. So many things are not connected, turned off, not setup properly, incorrect labels or no price tags at all. Keyboard department has some keys coming out of 1 monitor instead of two. And with all the patching capabilities you'd think all the keyboards would be patched into a splitter so you can try them all out on a pair of monitors instead of asking someone to connect it.
You have a digital console in the studio room with a session open on a DAW but nothing coming out the speakers. They're different sets of studio monitors on the desk, would be great if there was monitor controller (like a Presonus Monitor Station controller) to switch between them and compare. You have analog hardware racked in the desk but they're not patched into the session so you can't mess with them to see how they sound.
The pedalboard station in guitars doesn't make any sense to me. If I want to buy a reverb pedal, I want to try all the different ones and compare them to see which one I like best, but you can't because they're spread out all over the place. That's just some of things I can think of off the top of my head.
The whole advantage of brick n mortar stores is that you can physically see, put your hands on stuff, and test out things. Ordering from online retailers doesn't have the advantage it used to anymore because you pay the same sales tax regardless only you can return things to the physical location vs sending it back in the mail.
One of the main reasons why I think Sam Ash went under is because their stores were so neglected, you could tell a lot of the employees didn't care and people stop caring to go as a result. I don't want to see Guitar Center go away and I think these little bits of constant upkeep would go a long way in the...
Read moreWent in with a co-worker/roommate after purchasing some monitors at a different guitar center. He wanted to look at some as well and I wanted to browse guitars because I always play before I buy (who doesn't?). Customer service (or lack thereof) is a joke. Don't go into this location expecting any help. I've personally spent thousands upon thousands of dollars in Guitar Centers and after visiting this place, I regret it due to the fact I'm indirectly supporting the lazy hipster asshats that work there. It took a solid 10 minutes to see one guitar I'm interested in, because previously the sales people insisted I went and got it myself inside the locked showroom. When I finished playing, I wanted to give the PRS back to someone to put it back, instead of disrespectfully discard this beautiful instrument in whatever spot to collect finger prints and get de-tuned. After asking one of the guys behind the counter to take the guitar, instead of them taking it from me so I could continue browsing - they once again send me on a goose chase to find a sales person to give it to. After asking 3 people it's starts to get annoying, and in hindsight I should've just tossed the thing on the floor as an homage to how shittily they view their customers. I eventually got an employee to take the guitar after rolling his eyes at me and proclaiming 'I work in the drums section dude, not guitars', but thank god I got him to take it, so he could just lay the $4000 guitar up against the glass counter for me instead of taking the 12 seconds to respect his own employers merchandise.
I suggest taking your business elsewhere, as I certainly will, unless you enjoy giving a business your money while you do their work for them, or if you like...
