My family just moved to Hamilton, and we were so excited to go to our first Hamilton farmers market, only to be turned away because dogs are not allowed. There are no signs or online resources claiming this, so we were shocked to have a market worker telling us we had to leave in the first 10 seconds that we were there. I have never been to a farmers market that does not allow dogs, let alone one they doesn’t post these specifications in public locations. I would suggest to those running the market to PLEASE make this obvious to market goers before they make plans for their day. Hamilton is such a great community, but I was so sad to hear that dogs are not welcome. Maybe I am missing a posting about no dogs allowed, but every sign we saw had nothing about dogs, nor did the website. I’m sure it is a great market, but I have no other experiences with it to be able to give a...
Read moreMany options here at this farmers market. One major letdown is the fact that this is outdoors yet they seem pretty aggressive about not allowing you to have your dog with you, which is a dumb policy. Been to many outdoor farmers markets and never encountered this.
Update: Thank you for your response. After reviewing the ordinances you cited (6.08.040 and 6.04.020), it seems they don’t mandate a blanket ban on dogs unless the farmers market itself chooses to restrict them. These ordinances primarily address nuisance animals and areas with specific signage where food is being served. If I were to bring a well-behaved dog on a leash, it doesn’t appear that this would violate the ordinances, as long as the market permits dogs. It seems the decision to ban dogs is more of a policy choice by the market rather than a legal...
Read moreHamilton Farmer's Market is the best in the area. Much prefer it to Missoula even. The location is super convenient and there is a nice variety of vegetables from area farms (actually grown here, unlike many markets where people purchase and then resell, but aren't even farmers). Also, a nice mix of prepared foods, gift items and more.
The only downside? People disregard the no dogs sign and bring them anyway. I have seen people get tangled in the dog leash and almost fall to the ground or trip over them. I love dogs, but they are really not safe to have at the market. I wish people would...
