On October 26th, 2023, I made the mistake to go to Tony’s in Hanover Park around 7:30sh to buy two weeks worth of groceries. Not only I found myself at a huge store with overly priced items but I got shock after spending more than an hour going aisle to aisle that no register was opened . There were two young guys cleaning the conveyor belts of two registers talking and having a good time.I asked one of them if his register was opened and he said no. To my surprise I had to get in line to use the self-served register which there’s no room to put your groceries or my bags because there’s not enough room to put your bagged items in the bagging area. I proceeded to go to a register and started to ring each of my items, soon I had no more room at the bagging area so every time I ring an item the register called out one of the employees to enter their employee number to override the error message. I started to get anxious because I needed an override for each item that I rang. All of the sudden there were more than 15 people waiting to use one of the registers. Two women were going register to register to override error messages. So, I asked the woman who came to my register and I asked her if she was the manager at first she didn’t want to respond to me but then she said why do you need help?. I responded that why won’t you open a couple of register because I have a lot of groceries and this is taking too long to be overriding error messsages every time I ring an item? and Alexandra got and attitude like if I was bothering and she got defensive. She responded they were short handed. There were like two employees, two young guys sweeping the floors one standing outside the customer service window talking and laughing. I said come on there’re way too many people waiting and no register that are open. Continuing waiting for overrides the other girl came and asked do you want me to help you ring your groceries, I answered ‘No’ it’s too late, I’m almost done. I said you could open another register and she replied “ we can’t” I asked why not? She replied the most ridiculous thing I ever heard, she said “we can’t open the registers because it is the company’s policy. I got more upset because I was purchasing over $300 worth of overly priced groceries, I was ringing each of my items by myself, I was bagging my groceries by myself, spent more time at the register than the time it took to go around the store shopping. And to hear this absurd answer that because is Tony’s policy, to not open registers when there are a lot of people who are waiting at the self-serve registers to ring their own groceries and they have about 5 employees there doing nothing talking and laughing sweeping the registers area having great conversation. I will never go back there. I prefer to leave my money in Fiesta Market which is down the road on Irving Park Road in Streamwood then go to Tony’s ever again. Where’s their customer service skills? All they want is our money. No customer appreciation at all. An upset...
Read moreAgree on disrespectful people. It starts with Ernesto the store manager. Woman in bakery extremely rude and disrespectful to me when I was only asking how much longer for rolls. While waiting went to the deli to ask a man whom I believed was a manager. He pointed out ernesto as the store manager. He was 30 feet away from me. He started walking very fast in the other direction. I called out “Sir” to get his attention, so I did not have to run after him. I say “hi! Good morning.” Being polite, friendly, AND respectful. Was going to introduce myself and he says “why are you yelling at me. What did I do. That is very disrespectful.” - what!? I explained I called him Sir, “you were walking away quickly, and I just want ed to get your attention.” He says “my guy could have called me.” Huh!!?? It is okay for your employee to call out to you from 30 feet but not a customer. Why didn’t the other manager say” hang. I’ll get him for you.” Ernesto is why most of the employees are rude and disrespectful. Starts from the top down. Great example to set for your rude employees, Ernesto. I now see where it starts as it usually does; from the top down. Anyway, ernesto immediately responds “I’ll get you corporate’s number if you want.” Great problem solving skills, Ernesto! Push it right off to corporate. I never even got to discuss what I wanted to. Tells me to meet him at the customer service counter then does not show. Poor, poor management skills, poor customer relationship skills, and just a disappointing manager all around. Deli folks are rude, too. Will stand there sometimes for five minutes and not one of the three people doing other things other than helping customers do not even look at me. Been shopping here since the store opened years ago…. Since the new corporation took over, just a horrible experience at least every other time I go there. Will call corporate and complain about Ernesto’s poor management skills and as quickly as he pushed me off to corporate tells me that he feels as if they will back him instead of disciplining or replacing him and that they will not care - sad - this guys has no business being a manager. So much more to say but tired of typing - I agree with every negative post in here-bad fruit, expired goods, hiding crappy meat under one good piece, etc, etc. guess I need to drive a few more...
Read moreLet me start off. This has been the worst experience I’ve have ever had at a grocery store. People are very very disrespectful. I came into the store for the first time yesterday I usually go to other Tony’s in my area and I love the STORE. people are amazing until yesterday. I went to the deli to ask for some products. The lady that was there was very unprofessional had no manners made me wait about half an hour when there was no one there at the deli she said that if I did not grab a number that she will not give me any of my products that I needed. I told her sorry I didn’t know you needed to pull a number at the other Tony’s usually they don’t have that can you please help me she said no until you grab a number so I went ahead and grabbed the number by that time there was another couple there Then she said now you have to wait in line when I was the one that was first there then another worker came out name Fernando and was extremely rude. First words that came out of his mouth were what do you want? I asked him if he could be more polite towards customers he answered back do you want something or not? I don’t have time for you. I went ahead and spoke to management about the situation when I was speaking to management other customers that were in line stated that at this Tony, a lot of people were like this that everybody was disrespectful that you could never get help from anybody All the workers playing around this is a corporate store. This should not be like this employee should not treat customers like trash. They should not have attitudes there there to serve Customers to whom it may concern Alex being the store manager I think you need to have a team meeting and show your employees. They should respect customers that they were hired to serve the customer. I will never be going back to the store. I’m pretty sure a lot of people around the area don’t go to the store anymore for the same reasons someone addressed...
