Style Encore — Local services in Harrisonburg

Well I have a mixed reviews for the New style encore in Harrisonburg. I have a good understanding of how stores like style encore, Plato‘s closet, once upon a child, and others operate. I am careful to take clothes that are within the past two years clean and hopefully what the store is looking for at the time to the best of my ability. On my first visit to the new style encore, The buyer took all of my clothes told me if I had anything else to please bring it in anytime. I specifically asked them if they were taking athletic wear tennis shoes and some other items. They said they were told me some brands etc. I returned on a second visit with With one bag of a few items including athletic wear. All my items except two were turned down some dude just some spotting which I totally understand and was glad to take back, however the athletic wear was perfectly fine and no good reason was given by a pleasant taken.. I chalked it up to different buyers and moved on. However, today I went for my third visit and I only had one bag but it had several pairs of brand new Talbots pants included in the bag. I work at Talbots and have recently purchased those with in the past 1 to 3 months. I was only selling because I had lost so much weight I could no longer wear them. Although a few of my items were taken, ( to note items that were much older than the ones that were taken ) I asked why they had taken none of the pants – the first reason I got was because they were too wide legged and they were looking for skinny leg pants. I totally understand that, however I made them aware that these pants are currently selling in the store literally on my floor right now. Letting them know that I was didn’t understand since these were currently selling in the store. I was told that they only take pants that were from the past 1 to 2 years they don’t take anything that is new or currently selling. I understand that they were very busy With buys today. When I showed up they did say they weren’t finished with mine but then suddenly they were finished with mine. I love style encore- I love what it stands for reuse of good items- and the ability to take your items in and get cash on the spot is wonderful. I believe it is a buyer issue. So hence the four stars, yet a bit of a complaint. I will certainly return, but hope that when I bring in brand new clothing that’s when worn once maybe not at all that it will be looked at carefully and assessed. Very upset with my last visit here. My mother and I came in this past week to sell some of our items separately. I was very upset with my moms transaction. She brought in a very large bag of items from Torrid and Lane Byrant. All of the items were purchased close to within the last year and many were BRAND NEW with tags still on the items. In this area we do not have a good selection of plus size stores. The ones we do have are stores like Cato's that have cheaper clothing. Not one item in my mothers bag had even cost under $50. In her bag of items she was selling were many new pairs of jeans (costing anywhere from $50 to $60 each), a brand new dress (still $99 price tag attached), brand new tops and sweaters (still $50 and over tags attached), and a brand new pair of torrid heels ( still in box with complete packaging and tag of $65). When we returned to see what Style Encore wanted to purchase we were very upset. Of course they wanted to purchase 12 of the nicest items almost all with tags still attached. What they had in their "keep" tote probably retailed for over $500. They offered my mom $56 dollars. Divided up making it a little over $4 per item. Absolutely ridiculous!! My mother was very upset and asked the cashier if they could do any better. She tells my mom she entered everything at "excellent condition" and Torrid and Lane Bryant were just ringing in low?? Can I ask what rings in high? Looking on the rack I saw clothes from Cato's, Costco, and Lularoe? I can imagine the ladies that sold there items must have walked away with a few cents. How could an item that cost $100 in an expensive plus size store "ring in low" when you have items from Cato? The lady helping us then typed a bunch of stuff onto her computer and raised my moms total from $56 to $60. Not sure what she then typed in to all the sudden raise the quoted price. My mom took back all of her items out of the tote because we could have more luck at a yardsale! I would recommend selling on Poshmark before coming into Style Encore. They would had turned a nice profit with them items they wanted to keep....

I wish I would have read the reviews before I even stepped in this store. I brought in 3 full trash bags filled with clothes and had to carry my toddler son. The older lady told me that "I" had to take out all of the clothes and put them in bins. She even said they had to be folded? As if it mattered. I felt as if I was doing her job. Platos never told me to take my items out of the bags and put them in bins. That's their job! When I went to back to pick up my clothes, they only took THREE items out of the 3 full trash bags I had. I had to hold my son since he was asleep, and one girl greeted me and continued what she was doing. Finally a hispanic girl told her to help me since I was picking up. They had all the stuff they didn't take back in the bins. I suppose they expected me to put all the clothes back in my bags even though I was carrying my son and he was asleep. This place is clearly hurting for money. They can say pilling and not in season all they want. That, I do not believe. Don't waste your time selling here. It's not worth it. Maybe to buy from them is a completely different experience. I'll never walk foot back...
