My recent hotel stay at Hyatt Place Harrisonburg was nothing short of a complete disappointment. My family and I had prepaid for a room, with high expectations of a comfortable and pleasant stay. However, our experience was marred by a series of frustrating incidents. First and foremost, the room we had PREPAID for was not the one we were given. This discrepancy left us feeling deceived and cheated. We had selected a specific room based on our preferences and needs, but upon arrival, we were handed the keys to a different room. It was clear that the hotel had not honored our reservation, and this set the tone for the entire stay. To make matters worse, early the next morning, a fire alarm went off in the hotel. While I understand that safety is paramount, the incident was mishandled. There was a complete lack of communication and organization in evacuating the guests. We were left feeling anxious and unsure about our safety as the alarm blared, only to discover later that it was a false alarm. This disrupted our preparation and packing to depart for a lacrosse game at JMU. This ordeal made us late. Additionally, during our stay, we decided to attend the hotel's breakfast service, hoping to salvage some enjoyment from our trip. However, the incompetence of the staff became even more evident. They had run out of forks, making it impossible for us to eat our meal. It's astonishing that a basic necessity like utensils was not available in a hotel that claims to provide a quality dining experience. This experience was not only inconvenient but also unsanitary. Overall, our stay at Hyatt Place Harrisonburg was a far cry from what we expected. The issues we encountered, from not receiving the room we paid for to the poorly managed fire alarm and the lack of basic dining utensils, reflect a hotel that is disorganized, unprofessional, and does not prioritize its guests' comfort and safety. I would strongly advise anyone considering a stay at this hotel to think twice and explore other options that truly value their guests' experiences. As if our prior grievances were not enough, the culmination of our frustrating stay came when we decided to address these issues with the hotel staff. We approached the front desk to request an adjustment to our bill, considering the inconveniences we had endured during our stay. To our shock and dismay, instead of acknowledging our concerns and addressing them professionally, the staff behind the front desk actually chuckled at our request. This condescending response left us feeling demeaned and disrespected. Even more disheartening was their outright refusal to make any adjustments to our bill. It was apparent that the hotel's management had created a culture where guest concerns were neither taken seriously nor dealt with in a customer-friendly manner. This experience left a bitter taste in our mouths, and we left feeling utterly disheartened and disappointed in the level of service we...
Read moreI made a reservation for two nights starting December 26 (10 days after Hyatt Place opened). I should have waited because it's obvious they were not ready for guests.
My first room had three problems: the privacy shade did not close and the phone and TV did not work. I called the front desk from my mobile but no one answered. After a long trip and unpacking, I repacked, went to the front desk, and asked for another room. Liz, the very nice front desk agent, assigned me another room. I proceeded up the elevator to the new room.
This time before unpacking I decided to make sure everything worked. Guess what? It didn't. The phone and the TV did not work. At least this time when I called from my mobile phone, Liz at the front desk answered. She arrived at the room with a new remote and was able to get the TV working. But the phone (which, by the way, is on the other side of the room, not bedside) remained dead. Too tired to move again, I declined the offer of a third room, but accepted the kind offer of a delivered cocktail.
But ... I'm not done! Attached are photos of body hair left in the bathroom sink. Yuk. One last critical comment: the walls are very thin & you can hear all conversations in the hallway. Suggestion: bring earplugs.
Aesthetically the room is bland. If you like minimalist gray and brown decor, you'll be happy. Fortunately my stay is only two nights (more than that and I'd have to be on antidepressants).
On the plus side, there is a small fridge and a coffee maker with ceramic (not plastic) cups. The usual bathroom amenities appear to be of medium quality.
Perhaps they're still working out the kinks. But I consider not having a working phone in the room a serious security issue should there be an emergency.
Would I stay here again. No. Two stars are for the desk agent Liz and...
Read more5/5 stars to The Ridgeroom. Drinks, food and service were all absolutely wonderful. Great experience there! We booked for a sunset view room and requested early check in. We called that morning to see if the early check-in would be available or not. The person that answered was pretty short and rude and still didn't fully say yes or no. We showed up a little over an hour or so after the time we requested to give them more time and try our luck. If it wasn't ready we would just go out somewhere until it was. The two guys at the front desk seemed like they had no idea what was going on or how to check us in. We requested a king and it was reserved as such but they wanted to give us a new room with 2 queens. When we pointed it out they seemed flustered. They eventually got it but they moved the room and view we paid for to the complete opposite side of the hotel. Our new view was a parking lot and another hotel. Instead of sunset we got sunrise and blinded all day. There was no curtain to block the sun, only a sun shade that was see-through. This also made the room incredibly hot even with AC. We couldn't watch the TV until night time. We had to request a comforter which seemed weird but was fine. The alarm in the room went off at 6 something in the morning and wasn't set that way by us. The next morning we went to get breakfast and then back to the room to relax some more before leaving. At 10am someone came into our room. I assume housekeeping. The night before I was told our check out time was 2pm but we planned on 12pm like the reservation said. There was absolutely no reason for anyone to try to enter an occupied room. Especially when we had a sign on the door. Other than the Ridge Room, our experience sucked and definitely not worth the...
