Hinckley Home Center — Local services in Harwich

1 star is too much.

I rarely leave negative reviews, especially for local companies, but this was an exceptionally terrible experience.

In May of '23 we had a quote on some doors from Cathie. The order was placed over the phone. When we went over the quote, and when we talked to Cathie in person at no time was it disclosed that these doors were special order and were not returnable. Had we been made aware of that we would have made absolutely certain that the doors would work for us. On the invoice, there is no signature on there, only on the quote sheet.

We had a contractor come to the house and he immediately informed us that the doors would not work for our home. We immediately went to Hinkley's the next day (Monday as you are closed Sundays) to cancel the order since they had not been delivered yet. That was the first time that we had been informed that they were not returnable and could not be refunded. We asked if there was a restocking fee since the doors had not been delivered to Hinkley's yet and were told we had no options and would just have to accept delivery and try to make them work.

If either of us had signed the invoice and been made aware of the non-returnable doors, then I could accept that we have no recourse. However, that is absolutely not the case here. Since that time we've had multiple other contractors doing work on our home and each and every one of them indicated that Hinkley's should have ensured that a contractor verified the measurements before placing the order and that this is something that happens quite frequently with Hinkley's, which is why they do not do business with you.

Now we're stuck with doors that we can't use, and out thousands of dollars.

DO NOT SHOP AT THIS STORE. No customer service. Rude...

Simply walk to the back wall of the store and they will help you. This place is really set up to supply the local contractors but if you simply go ask for help their wonderful. Huge selection of lumber and just about anything you would need for a home repair. Their return policies are fair and they do deliveries of big and bulky orders locally. Don’t believe the posts from those that don’t understand their system. Our contractor purchased 36 Anderson windows for our home from here and they have stood by them and the rest of the products we got to renovate. It’s locals mostly serving locals, be nice and you will be treated nicely. We’re not in the city and their dealing with big orders so be patient their getting to you as fast as they can. We’re lucky to have this wonderful resource...

In my experience this team is not helpful, rude, and unprofessional. I was put in touch with them by Andersen Windows to help fix a broken window. Andersen told me they shipped them the parts, but the Hinckley team at first didn't want to look for the parts. They made me go back to Andersen to get shipping information (would have been nice if they had done that since Andersen said the parts were at their facility). I got the information and provided it to Hinckley. It turns out the information Andersen provided was wrong, but the Hinckley sales rep called me back (that's great! Responsive!), scolded me (that's not great!), and hung up on me (double, not great!). That's enough for me! I'll find someone else to help me - I don't do...
