How DO they stay in business?? Had lunch there on 7/29/14. My two hosts (this place was their choice -- would not have been mine) had a fish sandwich; deeply fried with a rock-hard outer covering (bread? no doubt procured at Home Depot)... perhaps and hopefully to discourage you from proceeding into the fish itself.
Having had a very bad fish (& chips) experience there about a year ago, I went with the hamburger. What could they do to that? I like my beef slightly above room temp but didn't dare dysentery with undercooked meat (as the menu went to lengths to point out). There's an OFF taste to hamburger when it has been sitting around watching other things get served for a few days; maybe refrigerated or frozen. It's an off-putting putridness; like Jack Kevorkian is the chef. Well I was starved but couldn't down more than 1/3 of this classic burger. The fries gave me no solace as they were obviously (at least once) in a hot oil bath with various kinds of fish. I guess changing the oil happens the day of the week after we were there. I hope so... but I'll never go back to find out.
About a year ago I wrote a negative review about my fish and chips experience. I have nothing against the owners of 400 East; I think I met one of them once -- a hostess on a busy night. I wish them well. I just with they would think about what they're serving. Apparently there are enough people for whom this very sub-par food will suffice. Which explains the popularity of McDonald's -- except their fries are great.
After my last review of this place it was highly evident that the owners mounted a campaign -- debating/addressing my review point for point-- to create positive reviews from their friends, family and neighbors. So don't be surprised if the comments after this one are plentiful, vociferous and come from brand...
Read moreWe had a weekend wedding in Cape Cod. For our rehearsal dinner, we came to 400 East. From the moment we contacted them, they were nothing but accommodating to us. We set everything up with Rich. He laid out all our options. He let us know the two different pricing points depending on how many guests we had. We ended up with over 30 people, so they gave us the back room so we had private space away from the rest of the customers. Ruby was our server. She did a fantastic job. She was right on top of everything the whole evening. Was constantly checking in on us to see how things were going and if we needed anything.
The one thing I’ve learned about Cape Cod is that most places you go, the food is good. 400 East was no exception. We had three main choices plus salad, rolls, cheese tray, and fruit. Chicken fingers are good, but a little dry. They gave us the most amazing buffalo sauce to go with it. I’m not sure if it was homemade or a jar, but it was amazing. I took a piece of bread to clean my plate with the excess sauce. My favorite was the sausage and peppers. They cut them in shapes to allow all the flavor to seep in. They used red and yellow peppers. I’ve never been to a restaurant that used yellow peppers. I think restaurants everywhere should start doing that. One of the best sausage and peppers I’ve ever eaten. My fiancé thinks it’s because they added a little red sauce into the mix. We also had penne à la vodka. I liked it, but some of my guests from New York kept complementing how good it tasted. They were all surprised that Italian food in Cape Cod could be this good. Weather going for dinner or hosting a family party, I highly suggest 400 East. Five stars on the service and hospitality, four stars...
Read moreWe went to this restaurant last Tuesday with 12 people. We were sitting outside and it was pouring rain, That was not the restaurant spot we requested to be outside.
There was a door that lead from the kitchen right into the tent so that the servers were not get wet. To say the server was beyond awful Is an understatement. We were the only people outside. She brought the soup after she brought the main courses never checked to make sure drinks were filled and she brought out my uncle a completely burnt pizza where he took one bite and that was all he could take. When she came back she just looked and said are you all done with that pizza he said yes never acknowledging the pizza was burnt to a crisp . I called the manager and the next day it was very clear that I didn’t want anything back that after receiving the type of service that we got I would never come back to the restaurant. Being a business owner wanted him to be aware of what was going on as I would want to be aware. He made a bunch of excuses which clearly indicated to me he did not really care about running a quality restaurant . Long story short, I will...
