As a regular kayaker of this river (not rented) I am horrified by the behavior this company may not be "promoting" perse, but is implicitly condoning by allowing hundreds of tubes and boats at any given time WITH copious amounts of liquor, alcohol, and (yes I can smell,) drugs on the river with the renters. My husband and I havte learned to bring garbage bags to clean up after these people in your vessels. Sometimes following behind a shameless offender. Because the vast majority of your renters have zero respect for the river, the ecosystem, or for others. Many have no idea how to safely navigate. We actually had to pull a woman and her BABY out of a treefall in a tube. If only that was our first rescue of people using your watercraft.
Glass bottles, beer cans, people throwing them on the banks, trespassing, publicly urinating shamelessly...I could go on and on. Last weekend was the last straw for me. The blatant disregard your customers, and therefore you, show for the very river you are using for a source of income is shameful.
IF YOU ENJOY THE RIVER, TAKE CARE OF IT. Simple. Going forward I will no longer hesitate to call the proper authorities when I see such bold disregard for the law and for other people and OUR natural resources. By building a business based on a resource like the TR watershed, you should be an impeccable steward, not covertly encourage the destruction of a natural resource.
Something needs to be done about the drunk and disorderly disaster on this river before someone gets hurt or the river is irreparably harmed. I am done silently cleaning up after you and your little moneymaking venture. I would gladly portage around a windfall, than have to see this beautiful river destroyed because no one spoke up. Stop being so greedy that you no longer respect your moneymaker. Stop turning the other way when people come back dangerously drunk or when they are clearly not prepared for a safe trip. Be...
Read moreWent here on a work trip with several others. There was lots of debris and fallen logs in the river, causing us to get stuck several times. There was so much debris under the bridge that one of our group flipped in his tube and he was left stranded and hanging on to the bridge. We were unable to stop until we got to the side and held on to a dock belonging to a home on the river. The owners were very nice and let us use their dock to stay out of the water.
We were unable to spot our lost co worker and became worried when he did not catch up to us. When I called up to the office, the person answering the phone asked if the person we lost was dead. I was then told they couldn’t do anything for us. I waited a few more minutes and called back. This time, they offered to call an ambulance which I said ok because I didn’t know if our co worker was ok or If he had possibly slipped and drowned. They did not listen to the details I was trying to give them and wasted valuable time saying I was confusing them with my story. They told the dispatcher I was a mom with a lost kid and I kept telling them that was wrong. Our co worker was found by the EMS workers, walking with an injured foot and the police gave us a ride back. We did not even get so much as an apology from staff.
This place seems to be run by teenagers who are not equipped or trained to handle an emergency. It was a very poor experience and I felt that the river was very dangerous to navigate. We had planned to go to lunch after, but everyone was too upset and overheated from waiting in the water for over an hour to continue our outing. I will never patronize or recommend this...
Read moreDO NOT TRUST THIS BUSINESS. THEY DID NOT CHECK THE ROUTE BEFORE SENDING US DOWN AND DID NOT FULFILL AGREED UPON RESOLUTION AFTER INCIDENT.
About 45 minutes into our kayak trip a huge tree blocked the river. We paddled to side and called the business. We were told to paddle back upstream to a house that "should be right there on left" where they would come pick us up. How did they know a house was right there?! Because, according to the home owner, they'd already had to pick up others that day... what?! Why were we even allowed to go until they had resolved issue?! And, if they discovered the problem after we launched, why wasn't a staff member standing on the shore at that house stopping us from going further?! After getting picked up and returning to the business I was initially told by staff that I could get my money back, in cash since owner had already picked up the check I wrote. BUT, no sooner had attendant reached for the cash than the owner (who was on the phone with attendant at the time) stopped her... instead I was offered to be put back in the river further downstream -- but, by this point, too much time had gone by - we would not be back in time for my daughter who had to be at work later. I was handed the phone and, after a brief, one-sided discussion on the value of customer service, the owner said she was in possession of my check and would mail it back. I contacted bank this morning: surprise, surprise, she cashed...
