So I was originally going to go down the road to SNAP fitness but I found out where I am in Hattiesburg has virtually no sidewalks. I met a nurse on my flight in who said Mississippi has a weight problem, and I mean of course it does if you canāt walk or run two miles, but I digress... One80 was right across the street so I didnāt have to play frogger with my only life so it made more sense to go here and I am certainly glad I did.
The employees at the front desk were very nice. I went for the more comprehensive membership package, itās $20/month with a $59 cancellation fee (I had to pay because I am only here for work) and an annual fee of $39, which comes out in April so look for that if youāre getting a membership soon (Luckily one of the employees advised me of it and saved me some money by cancelling earlier).
I saw other folks have had issues with the pay system, so Iāll let you know how I did it. I walked right up to the front desk, asked them, and then they gave me a piece of paper to sign ā I could use the gym for the month I had paid for, and it was done. Easy. Donāt wait til later and throw a fit at these nice people, and donāt pay stupid tax, just talk to them and save yourself some grief.
Iād really give it about 4.5 stars instead of 5, but only because they have a no deadlift policy, just one squat rack, and the dumbbells only go up to 80Lbs. I lift a lot of Olympic lifts, and I lift heavy, so thatās a sticking point for me. The reason they have it is because some folks just donāt know what they are doing and hurt themselves⦠I guess another guy actually broke a weight from slamming it down too hard. Thanks guy, ruin it for the rest of us. It is a very inexpensive gym so I can definitely understand theyād want to keep their equipment maintained as much as possible, itās not like they should have to budget for clients not knowing how to workout, or ego lifting. I would LOVE to see a nice deadlift platform built in there, if the floor is the concern maybe just an elevated platform with rails on the side so you have enough ground clearance to throw the biggest 45ās on. If someone lost it, itād just fall on the steel rack.
All of the equipment is very well maintained and mostly in good repair (One80, maybe replace the cable rope handles soonish). There are LOTS of cardio machines; more than a weights type guy like myself needs. There are also lots of regular lifting machines and a fairly comprehensive functional strength area (Medicine balls, pullup stations, dip station, T-Bar row area). They even have a circuit area designed to get you quickly through a workout and on with your day.
You can also buy a nice smoothie there, I had two and they were very tasty. They have tanning facilities, I only use standing ones and they never had a light out, always clean. Iāve also seen hydro-massage tables and massage chairs but I havenāt bothered to use them.
I think that about covers it. Iād give this gym another go if I were to come back for work again
Iām copy-pasting this review multiple places...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI was a member of Crunch fitness during my time living in Hattiesburg, MS 2014-2018. As far as amenities are concerned, they are on par with Planet Fitness.
My source of frustration came, when, checking my monthly balance having moved from Hattiesburg, I noted that I had been billed 15$ / monthly since 2018. Imagine my concern noting that 675$ had been pilfered from my account with my not having stepped foot in their premises since 2018.
Having been made aware of this, I called as soon as I found out and was told I had to physically be present to cancel. I live in New Orleans now for training and am working a tedious schedule amounting to roughly 80 hours weekly- making travel technically difficult.
I spoke with numerous other gym members who had similarly been conned out of their money and was told it is possible to ask for cancellation over the phone if you are physically unable to do so. When I called earlier in 2022, I was told a manager was not able to assist me in canceling over the phone at that time and to await a call back- this did not happen.
I called again and was told this policy had not changed and that no exceptions were made. As far as what I was told, the only two ways to cancel are in person or via writing snail mail.
I cannot imagine a single reason why a gym operating in 2023 could have access to a website and over 400 locations yet not have a ādocusignā or option to cancel over the phone. I was ensured that even after my debit card had no longer been active not to worry, that they were still withdrawing from my checking account. There is simply no reason not to allow this other than to scam your customers out of their cash.
I value my time, I value my money. It is clear that Crunch fitness does not value either of these things and for that reason I will never sign an agreement with them or any of their subsidiaries and urge you to avoid doing similar. This is a divorce you cannot annul.
If you are expecting them to change this one sided relationship, look no further than the number of reviews that testify to this particular complaint and note that this policy still exists despite it being addressed and responded to by the management. Ask yourself, what incentive would they have for canceling your membership other than customer service?
I donāt like ranting, and I offer a suggestion: on your website, allow customers the option of opting out (no physical, no snail mail).
A subtle art of customer service is: if you are asking someone for something, make it as EASY for them as possible.
If you are looking for a gym to workout and are not married to the idea that you will be living in the same place forever, I encourage you to...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI joined Crunch in Hattiesburg back in October and I have to say that my experience has been way better that I could have expected. I have joined a few other gyms in the past and they were nothing like Crunch. Iāve been nothing but happy since the first day. My friend and I had a 3-day pass and we met the manager, Jake on the first day. He explained how things worked, he came over and talked to us every day, and we ended up getting a membership on the 3rd day.
Iām happy with how friendly the staff at the front desk are, they always make you feel welcome. Itās amazing how clean it is for a gym. There are paper towel holders, disinfectant spray, and hand sanitizer almost everywhere. I always see members of the staff replacing the paper towels, cleaning the machines, and spraying things down. Even my husband was impressed when I told him that they check our temperature at the desk. He just thought they wouldnāt let us in without a mask, he had no idea that our temperatures were checked before we could go into the gym.
I have never seen a gym with such a dedicated staff. Hope is always there and ready to help with any questions on nutrition and how you can change your diet for the better to get where you want to be to reach your goals. Jake just goes out of his way to make sure that he is available to any member that has any questions or problems. Heās also always trying to keep things fun, upbeat, and interesting. There are always different things going on at the gym where members get to try different classes, we get to meet other members, and just have a good time while working out.
I tell everyone I know whoās looking for a gym, an exercise class they might like, or both, to go to Crunch in Hattiesburg and go talk to Jake, heāll take...
