I went to the China Buffet restaurant yesterday with my Oriental friends.Had such a good time and enjoyed the food,so much so that I decided to return today on my own for lunch. This experience was a completely different and negative one.
Firstly as far as I know in the state of Mississippi there are supposed to be rules of engagement regarding social distancing. In some restaurants the seating arrangement is every other seat for patrons to dine. However at this facility while there were empty tables around the waitress placed a party of 4 immediately behind me and to my right a party of coughing 4. I asked about this and my waitress could not understand so she sent for the manager who told me they are busy that's why it's no social distancing.I pointed at the empty tables and all she told me was they are busy. Irregardless of a facilitys' desire to man several tables, we are living in a new era where to prevent the further spread of Covid it is absolutely essential to abide by state rules and recommendations which includes a certain capacity and spacing at least 6 feet apart.
Secondly, while I dined my empty plate sat on the table while the waitress toiled and asked her other patrons if they were finished with their plates and even offered refills.Even yesterday while at the table she stopped to ask if we were ok and if we needed anything. She took our cups and refilled without asking which we appreciated. But somehow today as a lone paying customer I did not have that experience. I sat at the table with my watered down Sprite without as much as being asked if I'd like a refill.
Thirdly, what made matters worst was that as I sat with my second plate a bill was placed at my table. Told her my card was in the tray she said to come with her to the cash register. While I waited on her I asked why did I need to get up from the table to come to the register. She had no answer and someone else was called and said "they dont know why I was asked to move from table to register". I pointed out that I was here yesterday and none of us went to the register as we were able to sit at our table.I even observed other patrons sitting at their table without heading to a register.
After all was said and done I voiced my disappointment and complaints to the manager and even told her I'd write a review and all she said was "ok". As if my thoughts feelings or existence was irrelevant. Coming from another country I've never experienced such blatant disregard for a paying Black customer. I'd never refer this place to even my greatest enemy I can take my money elsewhere where it is...
Read moreWas visiting a friend in Hattiesburg to celebrate a special occasion and wanted to take her and another friend to dinner. She wanted Chinese, and none of us had ever been to this place. Saw the 4.1 star review, so figured it must be pretty good.
This was the WORST buffet I have ever experienced. We went for dinner and the food was clearly old and had been sitting out all day. I could only find a few things that looked remotely safe to eat, and even those were questionable. Our booth smelled nasty, like urine. All of the deserts were old and stale-clearly just taken out of packages from the store and dumped on the bar. The ice cream cooler was nasty and unsanitary because people were literally reaching their hands in to scoop their own without gloves (how it’s set up) and therefore touching the ice cream they were scooping. The place was very dirty, even the kitchen, which I could see into from where we were sitting. Fortune cookie was already open when given to me.
All in all, it was a terrible experience and we should have left when we saw how bad the buffet was. It was late and we were all hungry, but I expect we will pay a price for that. 😭 Maybe it’s better if you go right when they open or for lunch, but I would never recommend this place for dinner. Definitely taking a chance of getting foodborne illness if you eat here. The only positive was the price was good for a dinner buffet and the waitress was attentive, though by no means friendly. I will never go back here and wish we would have left...
Read moreMy friend and I visited China Buffet & Sushi Bar after hearing so many good reviews — but unfortunately, our experience was completely the opposite.
From the moment we walked in, the service was extremely disappointing. When I politely asked for clean plastic silverware (because the ones provided weren’t clean), the server ignored me, walked past without saying a word, and tossed the utensils into my hands. Throughout the visit, she continued to be non-verbal and visibly rude toward us, but she spoke and acted warmly with her coworkers and Caucasian guests. Sadly, this behavior felt racially charged — something I have never experienced in any restaurant before.
The food itself was just as disappointing. We tried a variety of items from the buffet — seafood, sushi, fried foods, grilled foods — and everything tasted old, stale, and unappetizing. Nothing felt fresh or flavorful.
Overall, our visit was extremely unpleasant, from the poor service to the terrible food quality. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone, and I genuinely hope they take feedback seriously and work toward better service and...
