Tucked away in Hilo there is a hidden treasure chest of antiques, collectables, and memorabilia. Now, you’ve probably driven by this ole home-style store a dozen times and not even looked twice. But with a keen eye you’ll see a vintage surfboard hanging on the wall next to a sign that reads, “Antiques”.

I wasn’t looking for anything in particular, nonetheless I was a curious cat so I veered on in. It was like stepping back in time. Think about any decade and you’ll find something cool.

The atmosphere is kinda like going to your grandparents house, patina with a sprinkle of dust. And throughout every corner you’ll discover some randomly distinctive knickknacks.

A few things that caught my eye and sent me back were the collectable toys, coins, guitars, skateboards, furniture, kitchenware, glasses, and of course the vintage records. My personal favorite was a record of "Pink Floyd – The Dark Side of the Moon." As the nostalgia echoed memories from my past an hour maybe two flew bye, and yet I could have spent the rest of my afternoon there lost in time.

The keeper of this treasure chest is Ray. He’s a super chill dude with a great sense of humor and plenty of talk story too. Ray knows his stuff and can tell you anything you need to know about anything you find in his treasure chest.

On March 2024 my son and I walked into Hawaii's Trading Post for the 1st time to actually look for vinyl, but came across alot of gorgeous antique and collectible guitars, on top of the most interesting vintage items that you just don't see around anymore. One of those items, was a unique guitar, which after a whole year, called to my son again as it was just meant to be his! Now in April 2025, we returned, to bring it to its forever home! Rays trading post is the best! We are visiting and my best friend is getting married here in Hawaii and we went looking for a classic, nice serving plate to hold her 6 in cake. We told him what we wanted and he found a beautiful, etched glass plate for her at incredible price! This shop has such a variety of unique things and is laid out well in a chill vibe. You will absolutely be gifted to find more than you originally went in hunting. He is authentic and so kind! Can’t wait to go back and get more treasures. You don’t want to miss this island...
