TreeTop Security — Local services in Hays

We are a Kansas based bank that utilizes TreeTop Security’s Peak platform. Specifically, we use the endpoint protection, patch management, phishing assessment, and network & security monitoring components at the time I write this review.

As a bank, we maintain a very aggressive patch schedule to help protect our systems against the potential exploitation of vulnerabilities that might result in financial losses. Historically we tried outsourcing patching responsibilities to other vendors that fell short of their commitments to apply patches in a timely manner. Eventually, we reluctantly brought all of our patch management in-house because vendors were unable to meet our expectations.

I was a little reluctant to try outsourcing patch management again, but it was painfully time-consuming, and one of the employees at TreeTop Security had built enough credibility with me over the years to give it a shot. I was NOT disappointed. TreeTop Security keeps our systems patched to the standard to which we expect them to be patched. My time spent on patch management has been reduced to a few minutes each week reviewing credentialed vulnerability scans.

With regards to the endpoint protection, I took it for a test drive before agreeing to switch our solution from a very large and reputable endpoint vendor. I took a spare laptop and threw a very dated operating system on it, and went to the dark corners of the web. I tried to get the device infected with a virus. The Windows laptop was missing hundreds of patches and only had an administrator account with no password. I granted fraudsters remote access to the system and watched and laughed when they couldn’t figure out how to get their ransomware on the device even though they had full admin privileges.

The phishing assessments that TreeTop Security conducts are based on real-world tactics that fraudsters are using in successful phishing campaigns. This gives us a realistic look into how our users respond to well-crafted phishing emails.

If you are starting to wonder whether this review was scripted by a TreeTop Security employee based on the length alone, I don’t blame you. The reason I am taking the time to write this review is that TreeTop Security helped save my keister today.

Earlier this morning, that very aggressive patch schedule I wrote about crashed two of my servers, one of them was my primary domain controller. Within minutes, the network monitoring services provided by TreeTop Security started alerting that the systems were down. TreeTop Security was helping us triage the situation before many of our employees were even waking up for the day. TreeTop Security knew we were in a bad spot and did not wait for us to call them for help. They proactively got in the weeds and helped us identify the root cause, and resolved the issue. It all started when I thought, the small business I work for, had a huge dumpster fire of an IT mess. After a router move and configurations going haywire, it caused printing issues with our business software. I called TreeTop (after hours) hoping they would be able to solve the problem. Being a new customer, I was well prepared to be told that we would have to wait for them to show up and help. Dallas called me back shortly after I left my SOS voicemail and heard me out with the issues. Dallas & Austin arrived the NEXT day. Upon further inspection, they claimed it was "only a small dumpster fire." HA! They were able to confirm our issues and even explained it to our business software company (with proof) that it was a them problem and not a us problem. Dallas & Austin were great to work with and if I called or emailed, they were there within the day to help. It is so nice finally having knowledgeable people to help with ALL of the IT issues and not trying to rely on Google or YouTube videos.

10/10 recommend TreeTop...

Treetop Security has been a lifesaver for me, and our program! They analyzed our office needs (security of information, travel/remote access, online conference calls), and set us up with everything to run efficiently - from computers to a camera- without overselling (made it all work with our existing laptops and old but viable printer).
