Finstad's Carpet One — Local services in Helena

Being born and growing up in Montana I have seen friends and families businesses pushed out and closed down over the years due to these chain stores/ resteraunts moving in and even though I may get a better deal by purchasing products at a chain store I prefer putting my money back in the local economy . With that being said, I will not be purchasing my flooring through Finstads anymore. Three years ago we purchased tile through your store for a remodeling job on two of our bathrooms. Our contractor highly recommended your store for our tile. The contractor told us it would be ok to order over what we need because Finstads will take any unused, unopened boxes and credit us back. Guess I should have checked with your sales rep because that was not the case. Was upon returning some unused boxes of tile , not before our purchase, that they cannot credit back special ordered tile. Something I would not have even known to ask prior to purchase. This year we decided to remodel the main floor. In February of this year we started looking at flooring which led us back to your establishment since I felt like I knew the right questions ask prior to purchase. With the pandemic shutting down manufacturing we decided to hold off on the remodel until things started opening up again. In May as things were opening up we went back to Finstads to place an order on some Laminate flooring we liked. After talking to our contactor he advised us to order more flooring than we may need especially with the delay in freight these days. Our sales rep, Brian, did tell us that the manufacturer was back logged so would not see our material until July. With what happened to me with the tiles I specifically asked Brian that even though I will be ordering more than I may need will they give me full credit on any unused/unopened boxes which he replied"yes" they would. With that my wife and I felt comfortable working with Finstads Finished the flooring last week which left me with 9 unused boxes. Called Brian on Monday, the 31st of August to let him know I will be returning the unused boxes for a full credit. Only then did Brian tell me that there would be a 20 to 30 percent restocking fee plus around $170.00 in freight. For 9 boxes? Legally I cannot do anything about it Because only then Brian told me the invoice states that Which you see AFTER purchase. Plus the average person usually looks at an invoice only to make sure the correct product and count is on there. Not the fine print. Brian told me what I wanted to hear to get the sale but did not go any further. Which included calling me like he said he would when materials came in. I would have to call him. Like I said I like to keep my money local but Finstads will not be one and will not recommend this...

Amanda at Finstads Carpet One flooring store was fantastic from start to finish!! First, she educated us on the nuances of solid wood flooring, engineered wood flooring and vinyl plank flooring, as well as carpeting options. She also took the time to explain the importance of gluing installation of vinyl plank vs floating installation, and pros and cons of flooring options for dogs. She made two home visits, the first for measuring and the second for ensuring our sub flooring was adequate— including having that installer join her. Everything was on schedule with excellent quality installation arranged. She was very patient with our color decisions and provided multiple suggestions and flooring samples to take home. Communication was superior and she went out of her way even to advise on appropriate floor cleaners after the installation of three different flooring products through the house, and discussing various throw rugs and appropriate rug pads. We were remodeling our master bathroom. The choices were overwhelming and we frankly did not know where to start; so many choices and options. Fortunately, Amanda B. came to the rescue! She was very patient and walked us through the best options and choices. She provided immeasurable advice on design and helped identify which materials would be good and which we should avoid. She developed plans and then confirmed the layout so we know how much material to purchase. Amazing communication throughout the process. Finstad's and Amanda got us on the right track.
