The best thing about this place:
I can not recall the last time I had such an awesome cheeseburger & fries, cookie, or cheesecake. Everything tasted so fresh...apparently it was homemade. It was unbelievable. I was suprised to come across such delicious cook to order food at an unassuming convenience store/Meat Processing business. I sincerely believe that their in store grill can stand on its own as a restaurant and easily compete with any restaurant in the SA area. Their cheeseburger made the burgers at Whataburger, Chester's, and most other joints seem like that vacuum sealed garbage FEMA airdrops after a natural disaster.
On top of the great food, the customer service was outstanding. Unbelievable. Literally every staff member was cool. They were above and beyond normal.
I unknowingly came in about 15-20 mins after their in-store grill closed. They still took my order without hesitation...they did not give a single indication that they had aready closed the grill and were in the middle of cleaning the kitchen. It was not until I overheard the gentleman who seemed to be in charge (Mike; if I remember correctly) direct his younger staff members to turn the fryer back on. The two kids did so without complaint or a hint of attitude. They seemed totally cool about it/cool with it; something you don't typically see from kids trying to wrap up their closing duties in order to clock out on a Saturday evening. So as soon I realized they had already closed, I attempted to tell them not to worry about going through the trouble just for my order but Mike insisted on not turning me away...which is something I do not recall ever experiencing at any place that had been closed for 30 secs...but they were cool with it being 20mins after close. Who does that?!?
In the end, they did not simply take my order or just ring me up like robots who seem forcefully programmed to provide just enough service to collect my cash. Nor did they seem put out (a common theme in too many roadside stores, restaurants, etc. staff). They actually made me feel welcome. I felt as if they were sincerely glad I came in and that they sincerely appreciated that I choose to go into their store.
The whole experience literally made me want to pay more then their menu price. My experience was no doubt the type that would leave anyone walking out of their store in a better mood; No matter how good of a mood they were already in.
Bottom line: You'd be a fool not to give them a try.
The worst thing about this place:
The distance. It's in Bandera and I live in South Austin. I just happened to be passing through on an unexpected (and one time) day trip near there. If this place was closer to Austin, it would most definitely be a frequent stop. I suppose I may come up with an excuse to go out there every...
ย ย ย Read moreOn Tuesday, October 11 there was a white chubby lady working behind the counter. (Helotes location) I went in to buy some of the salsa they sell because my wife loves it! And we have been buying it for over two years. The last I would say 10 times we have bought it sometimes itโs good and now other times it taste a little sour. I went in to purchase one and when I opened the top up to see if it was under pressure (Because thatโs how you know itโs going bad) It exploded all over my shirt, floor, and counter. As I am talking to the lady and explaining on how you know theyโre going bad or not. She could really care less. After saying I was sorry about the mess but I was just looking for one not under pressure. She seemed very frustrated and didnโt apologize once for the mess on my shirt or wanted to help me out in anyway. I felt like I was bothering her. At her job!! There was a gentleman who came out to help me and cleaned up the mess. We love this meat market and customer service is usually OK. But this lady was really rude today and really didnโt give two craps about what happened to me and what I had to say. SO RUDE!! Also there was nobody else in the store so she wasnโt busy she just didnโt want to deal with...
ย ย ย Read moreOK so I am not a local, I live in Arizona but from Nebraska so I know my meats pretty well. Getting quality meats in Arizona is pretty tough. I had a chance to get some Jerky, Beef sticks, Akaushi sirloin , beef fajitas and some Akaushi beef dogs from Schott's and now it's made me question all other meats I have ever had. Where has this place been all my life? The Jerky was smoky and tender and full of flavor with just the right amount of dryness. The beef sticks were spectacular with so much flavor and just the right amount of spice. Now the Akaushi meats.....since I tried the Akaushi beef I have had visions of me chasing Akaushi cows with a knife and fork no sauce even needed. The meat was so tender, juicy and flavorful. You really don't need a sauce and very little spice since the meat is so good. The Akaushi beef dogs were no different. They were amazing and so flavorful. The beef fajitas...amazing as well. Schott's has their spices figured out and I highly recommend the fajitas, or anything for that matter. If you want quality and flavor, this place is a must try. The service is excellent there too. They can help you get just the right meat for your meal to be...
