Our go to place on late Sunday afternoons. We love to hang at the bar, order app's and short rib pizza. Our usuals are lobster cocktail (when they are not out of it), shrimp, tuna tar tar and that short rib pizza which is just delicious! We have also come for brunch over the years which is very well done. Been coming here for more than 25 years so I would say we enjoy it a lot. Love the staff, they are truly the main reason for coming back. They are attentive, friendly, knowledgeable of the menu and offering suggestions to people. We adore Matt with his warm welcoming smile and equally polite personality. He literally puts a smile on my face when we walk in and we see him working. Also like to mention Karem, the "bartender in training" he was really busting a move back there last night! Polishing the glasses (no spots here!) filling the ice, being friendly and smiling the whole time. Bottom line, great staff, nice selection of app's and nice patrons round out this Sunday afternoon stop for us! Just an update October 2021...Have been starting to go out again to indoor places we feel comfortable in and this bar has been a wonderful spot. The tables are not top of the bar, you feel comfortable, the service from the bartender is fabulous. Shout out to Kenny, he pours a great cocktail and gave suggestions for food options. I tried the sesame chicken salad for the first time and wished I had tried it long ago. The crowd control indoors by the bar was a welcome site as we try to return to indoor settings. Still a welcoming, warm place. We enjoyed it a lot and look forward to...
Read moreWorst bar in all of Hoboken. Rowdy crowd, overpacked, and especially a terrible staff. I went into this dive bar with my wife and 15 year old son. We asked to sit down and the hostess said, sure find a spot with no sense of hospitality whatsoever. We were brought menus, which were very confusing. We waited for 15 minutes for the server to come and get the drink orders, but nothing. We waited another 5 minutes, still nothing. Another 5 and it was like we didn't exist. The three of us agreed that if someone didn't come within 2 minutes we were out. All in all we waited around 20-25 minutes. We decided to leave. On the way out, the female hostess said, "Have, a nice night," like there was absolutely nothing out of the ordinary. To us, this was so terrible we couldn't even find the words. However, we left without stirring up and argument. In conclusion, I along with my family absolutely hated this place. The service was terrible, in fact, if I could give this place a 0/5 I would. C'mon people get your stuff together. You want to have a bar 15 minutes from the city you better be ready to get the people in and out. The way people in the city are wired is that they want to get out of restaurants in a hurry, not sit 20+ minutes just to give a drink order. I wouldn't go here if you want a nice dinner, although the bar seemed to be popping with the...
Read moreI've been going The Madison for years and it is a solid restaurant and bar. I recently went on Sunday night, didn't feel like cooking at home. It was quiet, no sports on. We sat at the bar, ordered some drinks. I got a glass of Josh cabernet sauvignon and my husband got a Kane. They have a wide range of beers on draft, wines and great cocktails. I was happy to see macaroni and cheese back on the menu, it was one of the best in my opinion. But we ordered the steak bao buns to start, there were two and they were very yummy. I was sad to see the lobster roll taken off the menu but they had a lobster grilled cheese special so I ordered that. My husband got the crab cake sandwich. And we both ordered regular fries although we had the option of regular fries, sweet potato fries, salad or I think broccoli. His crab cake was big and he liked it. Mine was so so. I think the combo of lobster and cheddar just didn't work. The cheese was too overpowering. There were big hunks of lobster, yum đŚ . I think they should stick to the original lobster roll. Why mess with perfection. Anyways got another glass of wine and called it a night. Watch out if you go during the week it does get busy and loud, many nights they have a DJ. Which I like but others in your party may not. But they do have ample outdoor seating so when it warms...
