This is my new favorite place to eat in Hoboken! The atmosphere is warm and inviting, and the people are absolutely lovely. I feel like this restaurant is just the right scale (no more than forty-two people are allowed by fire safety regulations) to get the attentive and personalized attention you need. The wait time for anything was very short, and the whole experience was very smooth and enjoyable. For a wine bar, the setting is not snooty or exclusive. Walking into this place you are hit by the open kitchen's aroma, and the warm lighting puts you at ease. I passed on wine, and they were still very happy to serve me. I ordered the grilled octopus (for the first time in my life) and the grilled beet dishes. The octopus tasted like the best chicken you've ever had, and the beet salad was very smooth with a yogurt type dressing and avocados and citrus to add a splash surprise taste. I appreciate that most of their menu is gluten free, and everything aside from the wine is reasonably priced. I plan on returning as soon as possible. With very little culinary knowledge or cooking experience, I can feel like a foodie here. I don't know what it is about this place, but something about it just feels right. I walked by a couple weeks ago when I was seeking out other restaurants for hosting a wedding, and I was immediately drawn in by the intimate scale and warmth that seems to saturate the whole place. Just walking by this restaurant gave me an entirely different impression than any of the other restaurants in Hoboken. I returned today to eat at Bin14, and I have become a fan! Thank you so much for an entirely satisfying experience that I will not soon forget. :) My only criticism is the name...'Bin' does not really do the distinguished and satisfying experience of eating here...
Read moreWhen I first arrived and sat down with my friend the plate they put down with my silverware had so much old food encrusted on it, I was surprised they thought that was acceptable to put out for a customer. We order a bottle of the Sauvignon blanc, prosciutto fig and ricotta pizza, roasted beets, charred octopus, and the truffle and honey mozzarella. Overall the food was terrible. The beets and octopus were fine but not the best. The mozzarella was rubbery and I could not taste the truffle. The pizza was a disgrace, the dough tasted like it was made from a dollar pizza place, the ricotta wasn’t even soft on the pizza, the prosciutto was sparse and over cooked and the figs didn’t bring the sweetest the pizza needed. We came for dinner and were so hungry that we ate this food but after a few bites I couldn’t eat anything and my friend finished it. The wine was mediocre. But to top off the entire experience my friend and I were harassed by the OWNERS FRIEND! She was a mid 40s white blonde woman alone at the bar. She literally picked a fight with my friend and I and made many rude and offensive remarks. The manager was a witness and didn’t say anything.
If you’re going to own a restaurant and comp your friends meals and allow them to eat at your restaurant maybe next time tell them to be on their best behavior and not harass paying customers.
I will never come back mainly because of how I was treated by the owners friend and the way the situation was handled by the staff. I shouldn’t feel attacked when trying to enjoy a nice evening out. This place is not worth your time and money. If anything come for a drink but stay away...
Read moreMy dinner at Bin 14 this evening was one of the most unpleasant dining experiences I've ever encountered. From the moment my party of three was seated, it was clear that the staff was more interested in turning tables than providing quality service.
Our server consistently interrupted our meal, approaching our table multiple times to inquire if we were finished with our appetizers and entrées. These interruptions occurred even when we were visibly still eating, with food remaining on our plates. The aggressive table management made us feel unwelcome and rushed throughout the entire dining experience.
The situation escalated when the manager approached our table and asked us to leave, despite the fact that we had only been seated for approximately 90 minutes. This request was not only offensive but also seemed entirely arbitrary. We observed that other tables, including those seated before us, were not subjected to the same treatment. Additionally, multiple empty tables were available in the restaurant, making the manager's actions appear particularly unprofessional and discriminatory.
The combination of the server's persistent and intrusive behavior and the manager's direct request to vacate our table created an extremely uncomfortable atmosphere. It was evident that the restaurant's priority was to maximize table turnover rather than provide a pleasant dining experience for their guests.
I cannot recommend this restaurant to anyone seeking a relaxed, enjoyable meal. The staff's approach to customer service was shockingly poor, and I will not be...
