I don't have to go into a dollar general location to know there are numerous problems inside. This particular one is even worse due to the mere suggestions their opening ours reflect. The customary closing time is 9pm stated on the door. This location cannot be trusted to be open after 3 or 4. You will only know this once you get close enough to the door to view the tiny post it note telling you so. Upon inquiring, they say they didn't have someone to close. As I know more than one person who applied for a job there, I at that time ask when they may hire someone else to keep the store open to the full hours. They say they have not had time to look at the applications. If the manager of a place is that shortsighted I bet there are many more eggregious oversights.
I learn of some from a friend who did get hired yet quit in the first week. For one thing, it's normal to let a new employee work alone staying till close on the 3rd shift thru work. They may or may not know closing procedures, or understand they won't be with anyone else. They will be shamed and peer pressured into not having an issue with staying alone, despite obvious safety concerns. The store has 2 years outdated products that are never removed from shelves, after being brought to the managements attention. And the cooler for dairy and eggs does not have any of the door stripping attached so I assume it's not close to temp in there. Feels about the same as the air conditioned room. Even though the store often has one employee work alone, the store has mystery shopping events every 2 weeks that I'm aware of. And the shoppers are not discreet at all- they seem to be disappointed every time a person gets through the front doors without buzzers sounding. They are the same two older ladies often, they do not look cute anything on the isles, just follow shoppers around until they go to the checkout then pick a new victim. Eventually they get in line and they grab a item near the register to buy. I ask dollar general why they don't hire more than one person a shift if the quality of the "dollar general experience" is that much in question?
When I did bring an error in the price I was charged to the cashier who checked me out, I was berated like I was telling her she personally set too high of a price. It was on a 2 for 6$ item but I only got one. I'm never leaving without checking my receipts from there because the way she dealt with it makes me suspicious that is not a innocent error but a decision for her to pocket the extra over the day.
Oh, this one may seem obvious but... Find another place to stop if you unfortunately have to use the bathroom, because this one will horrify you for years after.
There are issues inherently with the business model and I will not be satisfied with the selection at any location for food. Yet I may end up buying that so called food because I don't have a car accessible to me at the time. That is part of the evil plan of this chain as a whole. Not only are they a expensive store with dollar in the name, they are the only choice for food in a walking area radius, keeping us too tired and uninspired with the lack of nutrients we been eating to do better, to get in the mode of taking a bit longer bike ride over to a real store...
Read moreThe aisles are SO SO SO small. And there is always stuff all over the floor so it makes it nearly impossible to pass someone. Also I have had many problems with the staff. Trying to tell me that something $12 that is 70% off and rang up at $7.20 is fine because that is "like 80% off". Had the same thing happen a couple months ago too. Not that I come in often but I have that problem each visit. Line was long and another worker walked up, looked at the line and walked away. Then to come back about 8 minutes later to...
