I ordered the 15-inch salad bowl and 12-inch utensils in Maple as I love the way maple ages to a rich golden glow, as well as being, to my knowledge, the hardest of the woods offered. After researching as many companies and artisans as I could find, I chose Holland Bowl Mill as the highest quality hand-manufactured bowl at a fair price. In the beginning I had my heart set on a custom bowl, but the price was sky high. I'm so happy I went with the Holland Bowl. It's perfect, beautifully finished, natural wood and sure to be passed down to a lucky friend or family member. The utensils are lovely, and the front edge of both is well-angled to be able to toss salad from the bottom of the bowl, a very nice feature.
I highly recommend buying a tub of the "Bee's Oil" to condition your woodenware. I treated my bowl and utensils twice when I first received them and each time was impressed with the enhanced appearance and feel of the wood. I raced around treating everything wooden I could find, from old platters to cutting boards with beautiful results. I love the "Bee's Oil."
Because my order topped $150, the company sent me a sweet little cherry bowl, gratis--the perfect portion size for snacking on things like nuts, pretzels, chips without going overboard. The cherry is a lovely red-gold color if you're trying to decide between cherry and maple.
Holland suggests the 15-inch bowl serves 4-8 salads. In my opinion, and because I like big, loose, leafy salads with plenty of room to toss thoroughly in the bowl, or construct a Caesar salad, I would say that the 15-inch bowl works for 4 servings, 5 tops. If you're tossing/constructing a salad intended to serve as the meal itself, I would suggest that 2-3 servings maxes out the 15-inch bowl. But, that's me, and I like big salads.
I'm very happy with my purchases and would recommend Holland Bowl Mill without...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI ordered 2 bowls late Nov.2024 for myself. One was a 12" Cherry fruit bowl, the other was a 15" Cherry chopping bowl with a mezzaluna. In Dec. 2024, Additionally, I ordered gift for my niece's wedding, a 15" Cherry chopping bowl, inscribed.
My bowls were delayed to overwhelming orders for holidays. When I received them, the Fruit bowl was beautiful. The Chopping bowl looked like a red stain piece of wood. I sent an email to Kory who was on vacation. I spoke personally to Krista. According to her I did not specify if I wanted two tone or uniform. She was reading the instructions to specify, but I tried to point out to her she was reading the 15" bowl, NOT the 15" Chopping bowl. The 15" chopping bowl description on how to specify which coloration you want, as of this writing, has not been updated on the website. I finally got Kory on the phone, who was snarky to me. I wanted the bowl that looked like the photograph on their website. He said, ""well let me go in the back now and get it", his rudeness was unbelievable. First in general, secondly to a customer that placed 2 orders shy of $500. He never sent the return label to exchange the bowls. I called and spoke to Krista, I was upset and said to her, it's up to you to either send the return label or not, as I was tired ot the runaround. I finally received The label, returned the red bowl, and finally received the 2 tone 15" Cherry Chopping bowl.
Again not only does it not look like the photographed one on the website, ( I am well aware of wood variations), but I believe they sent me imperfect bowl. ( Was it on purpose?) It is not round and the dimensions off about an inch, so it more oblong/oval shaped. I am tired of dealing with this company and trying to support a...
