The lady at the front desk who checked us in was super kind and helpful. The medical staff, not so much.
I felt bad coming in 5 minutes before they closed, but I had a baby who had been vomiting for nearly 9 hours, to the point where orange and green bile was coming out.
The nurses and doctor were much less impressive. I could hear the doctor scoffing as someone hollered “there’s one more!” obviously referring to us.
The young boy nurse who took me back was fine, but a bit aloof. I had my purse, a diaper bag, and the baby in its car seat. I had to take out the baby to be weighed and then go to another room. I had to awkwardly figure out how to carry everything now that the baby was out of the seat, and the nurse just stood there watching me. Not that he should be expected to, but it would be a kind thing to do, and helpful to the rest of them to get me outta there quicker (since them leaving for the night seemed paramount).
The next male nurse that came in was kind, he seemed a little annoyed at first, but once he listened to my words, I think he understood that I wasn’t just another mom freaking out about nothing.
Funny, none of them bothered to ask if this was an only child or not. I have two other, older kids. This isn’t my first rodeo, I only took this baby in because something was truly wrong and the internet only reinforced my negative thoughts.
Then came the doctor. He was the worst. Super quick and unprofessional. He wasn’t there to hear about anything I had to say, frequently interrupting or talking over me. He was so quick and unsympathetic that the baby started dry heaving after he stuck the tongue depressor down his throat. Literally the only symptom I listed when I checked the baby in was “VOMITING” so like, an ounce of tact would have been nice.
Then when he left the room (after being there for 120seconds), he was just like “okay we’re all set.” and walked out, but closed the door. Then I was confused. “Do I wait for paperwork? Do I get paperwork at the desk on my way out? I have never been here before.” After 5 minutes of waiting, I decided to buckle the baby in the car seat to start heading out (what if they were all waiting for me to get the heck out of the room so they could go?).
I open the door and the male nurse explains to me that the doctor is getting the paperwork ready. Awesome. Now I will go back to the super hot patient room (after hours, I imagine HVAC isn’t pumping AC anymore in the building).
Maybe I just caught bad staff on a bad night, but I was not impressed by the medical staff (the older male nurse was fine). The lady at the front desk was exceptional compared to...
Read moreTL,DR: Advocate for yourself and trust your gut!! This clinic is not afraid to misdiagnose you just to get you out the door! Borderline malpractice.
Came in with a very clear erythema migrans (Lyme disease) rash, as well as symptoms of a headache and some soreness. See the attached photo for the rash itself. I had been on a backpacking trip 10 days prior and suspected I got bitten by a tick then.
I saw the PA, and she stated that she didn’t really think it could be Lyme disease from a tick bite because the shape was an oval bullseye and not a circle. She wrote me a prescription for prednisone, which seems like the useless default for places like this. I told her I was really concerned about Lyme, which can be a life-altering disease, to which she wrote me a prophylactic dose of preventative doxycycline. This dosage was a one day antibiotic course, used for prevention. I questioned the dosage and she shut me down and essentially shooed me out.
After this, I did some research on the Johns Hopkins Lyme Disease Research page, as well as seeing an actual physician. Directly from the Johns Hopkins page: “it is important to note the most common Lyme rash manifestation is a uniformly red round OR OVAL rash that expands to greater than 2 inches.” There’s mistake number one. A complete misdiagnosis.
I was also told, by both the physician and the Johns Hopkins Lyme Center, DO NOT take the prednisone. Prednisone can interfere with your body’s immune response prompted by the antibiotics to nullify their effects on the Lyme disease. There’s mistake number two. A genuinely dangerous recommendation by this PA that would put me at risk of Lyme.
Finally, I was informed by the MD and JH Center that the single-day dose of antibiotics would be totally ineffective. As I suspected, the recommended course is a 10-day treatment of antibiotics. The prophylactic single dose is only for cases within 3 days of the tick bite. As I clearly explained, my bite was at least 10 days ago. There’s the final mistake. A carelessly issued prescription that could have cost me dearly if I hadn’t seen an MD (who provided an official Lyme diagnosis) to get a real treatment course of antibiotics.
Through all of my questioning and self-advocacy, I was dismissed at every turn by this urgent care center. Not mentioned above, I even called later to inquire about a follow up visit, which was swiftly denied by the PA. I am extremely disappointed by the uncaring attitude and blatant misdiagnosis I received at this clinic, especially for such a serious...
Read moreI drove myself to this location because it was the nearest emergency care facility to where I was when i had accidentally cut myself badly while working alone in my garage Sunday evening. I was stressed out, in pain, and and angry with the situation I had gotten myself into... hence I was a bit short with the intake receptionist. She responded with patience and a calm demeanor that soothed my nerves immediately, and snapped me back into the present. I was then ushered to the waiting room for only a few moments before my name was called to go back into an examination room. The next MA(I'll just use "Medical Asst", bc I didn't catch the titles of these young ladies) that I came in touch with took my height/weight and vitals with an equally soothing demeanor. A short interview followed. Before I knew it, a third MA(???) was sewing me up. The previous MA immediately returned with a surprisingly painless tetanus shot accompanied by my discharge paperwork, all presented with a wonderful sense of humor that further calmed my nerves... and sent me home with a smile on my face.
I don't think I was there for much more than 45 minutes. That's got to be a personal record, beating out second place by probably 2 hours. Now, looking back, i am embarrassed that I failed to get any of their names. I am hoping that that they read this review to get a feeling of how grateful I am for each of them to have been there that evening to care for me. I have NEVER had such a delightful experience in a hospital of any kind. My sincerest apologies to the front desk attendant for my rudeness. Thank you. And to "the Seamstress" who did the lovely work with the stitches, I thank you for your professionalism and quality work. And then the young lady who seemed to take pleasure in stabbing me with my first nearly pain-free tetanus shot, you are awesome at your job, I thank you.
The level of care i received that night was top shelf. I couldn't recommend it more highly. The skill and professionalism, as well as speed, is unmatched in my experience. It (almost) makes me want to get the other hand done this coming...
