Kim's Jewelers — Local services in Holmdel Township

My now fiancé and I went to Kim’s to look at engagement rings. This is the first store we decided to start at.Well I had done 0 research at this point about diamonds or shopping for an E ring.I pointed out a halo ring I liked and Mr. chin let me try it on.Well that being the first ring I ever had on I immediately fell in love with it. Mr Chin didn’t have any conversation with us about what we were looking for, our price range, didn’t discuss the 5 c’s of a diamond, difference in settings and designers etc. Nothing. My fiancé asked how much the Halo ring was I fell in love with. All Mr. Chin kept saying was don’t worry I’ll get a good price for you.He let us take the ring outside to look at it in real light.Well little did we know at the time that the diamonds in the display case aren’t real. And you have to buy the diamond separate from the setting.That fake diamond in the display case sure did sparkle.We put $100 deposit down and left. Came back the next week but still he wouldn’t give us an exact price or go over details about the ring after us putting another $100 down. We wound up going to a different jewelry store for pricing in Shrewsbury the next day. That’s when we found out the service you should be getting from specialists who sat down with us to explain everything we needed to know before shopping for an E ring.They could tell we didn’t know anything about the process.That’s also when I realized how shady Kim’s was. We got our deposit back from Mr Chin. Our service went to the second jewelery store who took the time to go through every tiny detail with us. If you want someone that will sit down, take the time to go over your purchase with you; go somewhere else, not Kim’s. I would not recommend you go to this place for repairs. While the service was quick the stone that was replaced fell out a week after it was repaired. I haven't had a issue with this ring for many years so when the stone fell out I was sure it was the same one. The owner did not agree. The people there are very nice & I was sorry the transaction ended with me walking out with my ring not repaired. I was annoyed with the inference that I was lying I suppose. Anyway kind of suspect that after years of owning the ring without stones going missing one week after the ring was repaired the stone was gone again. Maybe this was a solitary instance but I wouldn't recommend using them. Btw the person that repaired the ring admitted he was not sure which stone he replaced & after commiserating with Mr Kim (in their language which I do not understand) I was told that they "know their diamonds" & pointed to another stone saying that was one they replaced. Which is it? You don't know which one you replaced or you know...

Has great quality gems at fair prices (maybe slightly lower than mall store prices but then MUCH better quality gems) Better selection than Costco too. Sold me a beautiful diamond ring without her, then played along to help surprise my girl when we "just went looking".. She tried it on and said its so nice. And wow it fits. 'Honey its yours'.. And then i paid for it. Great local family business (originally was in Wall Peddlers Village which is gone ( i found pic of thier old sign from back in the day lol) I found him again in Middletown. Holmdel. Worth a 30 minute drive for quality and value!

Update. 6/3/23. OWNER & his nephew can DESIGN custom jewlery as well.. Family business for over 50 years ( ive only been a customer for 22 years though) prices might be slighlty higher but appraises out much higher in writing. (Guys you dont walk out feeling like you just got ripped off)

He also accepts old unused good jewlery in trades too
