I have been attending Bar Method classes for 6 weeks now and can honestly say this is an amazing kick your butt workout. The staff are so friendly and helpful. Always greeting you right as you walk in the door. Instructors encourage you to do more and push yourself further. If you're thinking it's not for me or it's too hard or you're ashamed of getting fixed/adjusted too much don't be. This place is not that kind of place.
My fitness background before Bar Method was very, very minimum. Maybe a short 15 min walk with my pup but that's about it. After my 6 weeks here I can definitely see a change in my strength, posture, and just over all well being. I highly encourage everyone to try these classes. That includes men too. No shame. I would also highly suggest at least a month commitment because I didn't feel like it clicked till about week 2.
I have taken classes at both the Honolulu and Kailua locations and enjoy both. The Honolulu studio has a little more amenities but the Kailua one is just as good. The equipment is newer and is located right above Cinnamons which could be a positive/negative ; P
The only downside is that these classes are kind of pricey. I'm trying to convince my husband to let me continue but so far no luck.
Hope this was helpful and hope you enjoy these classes just as...
Read moreTo be brief, inconsistent policies and practices. For instance, during Homecoming weekend we were told the challenge started on Sunday, but not Saturday. (Sunday had a waitlist. Saturday did not).
I even overheard a complaint about different starting times on Sundays. Apparently some Sunday classes start a half hour later than the ones on Saturday.
I signed up for the “unlimited” pass, but if I wanted to take three classes in one day, I would be charged 29 dollars. Personally I wouldn’t want to take three classes in one day, but why would someone with an “unlimited” class pass be charged?
There are more inconsistencies, but I’m keeping it brief.
My fellow students are great and encouraging.
The instructors are great. This is one of the older or veteran studios, so new clients could feel left out, but the instructors really go out of their way to be helpful.
I shouldn’t feel a sense of anxiety or be worried over inconsistent policies and practices while I’m trying to stay holistically fit. That defeats the purpose.
Caution: you cannot park in certain spots. I get that Bar Method people are most likely to be “fit”. However, some people do have injuries and still want to take classes. Being upstairs and having restrictive parking can be a turn off for some...
Read moreThe Bar Method will kick your body into shape. Love the workout but the atmosphere of the Oahu location is lacking. Lacking friendliness, attentiveness and positivity.
I've been to studios around the country. I took many classes here in Oahu so my opinion is based on my experience over several months. The Oahu studios are lovely, finding parking can be a challenge. Some instructors are great but the turnover is consistent so that speaks to management. It's not the warm, friendly, accepting environment you would expect.
A number of staff members weren't very inviting or positive, which should be a requirement, especially in management. The studio would benefit from a good cleaning in between classes in order to avoid clients spreading germs on the bar. I also don't want to lean into someone else's sweat on the mirrors. One instructor admitted she was told to clean the studio prior to the next class but she flat out refused. The studio is small. There is a need for personal space in barre classes & more space would be a benefit for this location. Classes fill up & it can be difficult to work out when people cluster around you, leaving no space to move. There should be a cap on the number of bodies...
