I am very blessed to finally had a chance to pay barber: Ryan N aka "Gusto" a visit at Vintage Barbershop this past SAT09SEP'23. Gusto has been cutting my hair since the beginning of this year after experiencing his top-notch service when he was attending school at HIHD. First and foremost, Gusto's personality and skills is "cut from a different cloth". He has an outgoing personality and is super friendly with his fellow barbers and his clients. Watching him interact with customers- welcoming them, is on point. He can definitey go back to HIHD as an instructor to teach customer service and professionalism skills.
Most importantly, his cuts are AMAZING. While I maybe stuck in my old ways of my preferred cut, you can feel and know that being barber is his true passion. From design cuts to every straight razor shave, he shares the process with you and gives you the reason and the story behind every stroke of the blade. You can trust that he'll take care of you, and I'm finally stoked to be able to have the chance to follow him to Vintage Barbershop as he earned his license. You can feel the energy and vibe someone exutes when they are passionate about something and love doing what they do. Gusto is that barber. Passionate and Skilled.
As for Vintage Barbershop, the booking system is great (Squire) and is such at a convenient location in the heart of Downtown Honolulu. Staff is super friendly and operational hours makes Vintage the "go-to" spot. Many props to them for signing in Gusto onboard.
Parking Tip: hit two birds with one stone * if you are a 24 Hour Fitness Bishop member- get your workout in and park at the Executive Centre. Validated at 24 is $1 ~ Weekdays after 1630 and Weekends: all day. Chinatown Gateway Plaza just about 2 1/2 blocks down has also affordable rates. Thank you very much Ryan/"Gusto" for always taking care and shout out to the great staff at Vintage for the ambiance and good vibes. Looking forward...

Read moreI'm a man of a certain age, and I've decided to grow out my beard - like a real Beard. I could probably grow a Santa's beard if I really wanted to go that far. But to get there "Gray Bailey" on the internet told me what I had to do, 1) grow out my beard way longer than I had ever had it before, and 2) have a beard stylist trim it and shepherd it until it grows out properly (about a year).
At month three, I was SO ready for my first major trim - the one that would set the foundation for my beard. My research lead me to Mojo Barbershop. I asked for their best 'beard guy', and they hooked me up with Kaliq at their Bethel Street location. Two days later.
When I walked in for my appointment, and I was so embarrassed to be seen on the street I wanted to walk in with a paper bag over my head. When I was introduced to Kaliq, my first words were "think of my beard as a block of marble, and you are Michaelangelo". We hit it off, discussed my goals and he came with his recommended plan of action. I put my trust in him knowing that some things (like this) are best left to professionals.
And Kaliq was excellent. He gave me the whole treatment; beard trim, hair cut, and razor trim. Wow! I walked out of there a new man. The cut was great, the experience was great, the atmosphere is great - and I have a new partner on this beard project.
100% satisfied. Thanks Kaliq Rashad at Mojo Barbershop, on Bethel Street near the Hawaii Theatre. (Had a great lunch at a nearby...
