COME, CELEBRATE CHRISTMAS WITH US. One of historically well-known and currently popular Episcopalian Churches located In the heart of downtown Honolulu. The Hawaiian Kings and Queens were initially highly instrumental in it founding and architectural style. Queen Emma in particular called for Honolulu cathedral to be modeled after the Cathedral in Lyon, France. The massive church structure was then built instages. Today, the Cathedral has church services at 8:00M and 11:00AM. The early service is a blend of the Hawaiian language and English speaking portions. Acoustically, the Cathedral of Saint Andrew has on of the best structures to accommodate musical groups. Last night's performance, was one example. Summer "brown bag lunch" performances are highly popular community gatherings.

The Cathedral of St. Andrew The Cathedral of St. Andrew, founded in 1860 by King Kamehameha IV and Queen Emma, is deeply connected to Hawaiian royal history. Queen Liliʻuokalani, during her imprisonment after the illegal overthrow of the monarchy, found solace with the Cathedral's community. After her release in 1895, facing threats, she sought sanctuary there and joined the Episcopal Church in 1896. Her legacy as a vibrant member and beloved queen continues to inspire the Cathedral and its congregation today. Located in 229 Queen Emma Square, Honolulu.

I went to school at St Andrew's Priory, so suffice it to say, I spent a lot of time here in the Cathedral. But on this visit, I was bringing a Scottish Heather plant given for my father's funeral & I just wanted some peace. And I was not let down. The doors were open, the cathedral empty except for the organist practicing. It was as beautiful as I remembered, and a perfect place to spend a few minutes on reflection. Of course I will be back.

The Cathedral boasts 8 tower change ringing bells that were a redundant set in England. Experienced ringers are always welcome. The Aeolian Skinner pipe organ's 133 ranks are approximately one third Walker digital which are seamlessly integrated into the sound. Services have varied over the years anywhere from traditional "middle of the road" Episcopal to fairly high church with many chanted prayers. The church has an excellent choir which sings classic choral literature. The church bulletins are informative and will guide you through the services. There is a monthly Choral Evensong Sertvice which is almost all sung. It's on my "must see" list whenever I'm...
