I was sent here by my buddy Al Jolson. He told me that his mammy really loved this place and that I should give it a try. I walked into the restaurant and was impressed by the display of the place. The service at the Doner Shack is quite nice. Unfortunately they didn’t have seafood (I asked if they had shrimp and they didn’t have any), but it wasn’t that big of a deal (I was told by Al Jolson to order the downtown Doner wrap with the catch of the day). Instead I ordered a downtown Doner wrap with a mix of chicken and lamb. The food was impressively made at a quick pace; it was as if Jon Favreau and Sofia Vergara were running the business. Upon the first bite I was so pleased to the point where I felt like a birth of a nation happened in my mouth. I could not believe what I was eating. I don’t know how they did it—maybe some dangerous minds were up to some weird science—but the masterminds who cooked my meal truly planned to do the right thing. This restaurant serves way better food than those Salt Lake City punks could ever make. I don’t understand all the negative reviews. All these negative and non-informative reviews spout nothing but idiocy—as if! I recommended my other buddy Freddy to put his fingers onto the amazing food that the Doner Shack serves. I will most definitely be coming back to this beautiful...
Read moreAfter passing this place on many occasions, I finally got in to order. It is in a busy part of downtown and very popular with the business lunch crowd so it can get very busy. I was there early at 11am and didn't have to fight any line of people. Got my food supper fast as well.
It must have been awhile since I tried to eat there because the place has expanded with more room to sit if you want to dine in. Before it was a narrow doorway that you had to squeeze in-between other customer to order and pick up your food. Much more comfortable and appealing with the expansion.
Got their Doner Pita plate to try and it was very good. It is basically like Greek Gyros plate. The loaded plate of meat was flavorful and the pita perfectly warmed and very slightly toasted on all over a salad bed. A generous amount, but not to heavy, yogurt sauce was drizzled on top. I recommend getting the hot sauce to go along with it to give just a bit of extra kick to it. At $12.50, it is a large plate of tasty food that is well worth the money to keep you filled up for the rest of the day.
People working there were all very nice and the place clean. Going to go back for sure again and try their shawarma...
Read moreThere is a reason this place is out the door during lunch. Food is tasty, and service is good. Location at intersection of Fort Street and Pauahi, so it is in downtown Honolulu. It is convenient if you work downtown but not so much if you don't. Menu has plates and wraps based on the meats served (beef/lamb kabob and chicken shwarma). Canned drinks are available in the fridge and seem to vary. I lucked out and saw some orange Jarritos. I prefer the wraps, but my coworkers always seem to get the plates. I'd say it was 75%/25% wraps to plates the day I went. Lamb/beef wrap for $12.50 is not bad and green sauce since it was less spicy than the red. Get there before 11AM most days, and you are good. 12 Noon is a killer line, but it comes and goes in waves. sondont be afraid to wait a little. If there is a line 20 deep, I would come another day. Some people like me were ordering for the whole office so it can be deceptive with the line. Seating is limited, and most people take out their food. Will...
