Virginia ABC — Local services in Hopewell

September 24, 2025, I went to the ABC store in Hopewell, Virginia, around 5:30-6 o'clock. As I was standing in line, there were two gentlemen in front of me. The guy at the counter seemed frustrated because the associate at the time, who was also the manager on duty, was being very rude when asking for ID. Mind you, this gentleman was way older than me. So, as he walks off, the gentleman in front of me steps up she’s telling him how people are getting mad when she asks for ID, but she can do what she wants. Mind you, she never asked him for his. So, as I step up next to pay for my item, she asks me for my ID. I had my paper from DMV because I had just replaced my license. Not only that, I had a picture - this wasn’t my first time in that store. She refused to take what I had, but I’ve used it before - the last time was there. So, I ask her why she didn’t ID the gentleman in front of me. Her response was, 'I can ID whoever I wanna ID,' very rude. I simply ask one question. As I proceed out the door, she’s still talking, and I told her, 'Your customer service is not very customer-service-like. You’re arguing with me, and I only asked a question.' Rolled up at 9:55 they told me they had been closed. I told them the I interwebs sayd they close at 10pm but they said they have been close. So they have been closed. Unfortunately even though they “had been closed” 5 minutes before closing. I asked why they were still there and they went inside and locked the door. So we had to go to another liquor store. Excellent staff ,good folks,helped assist me in finding the Kentucky bourbon was looking for ,we chatted about weather,and they were friendly polite,store clean,this is the best ABC store in Virginia as far as I'm concerned ,its wheelchair accessible ,they treat military and disabled veterans with respect ! I highly recommend...
