Came here years ago when it was Elephant Thai. It has changed names and I assume owners. The service here needs help. It takes forever to get anything after lunch rush is over, not even during peak hours. We ordered Thai teas three times from two different waitresses and finally got them after thirty minutes. The Thai tea is really good, but they bring it to you in a wine glass and don't offer even one free refill. Order it without ice, and order ice on the side. This will be a decent amount and you won't have to pay for two or three if you like to drink a lot of it. We got the calamari appetizer and it was not good at all. Bland and overcooked chewy tubes of squid. I got the pineapple fried rice with shrimp and it was very tasty, but there were only 5 shrimp for a large plate of rice that cost $11. It also took a very long time to come. The servers and staff were all very friendly and the atmosphere is nice.

UPDATE: I came here again tonight, 4/3/2021, and I had to up my review to 5*s. The quality and portions of the food were amazing, and the flavors are wonderful. Service was fast and friendly, and the prices were very reasonable. I got the pineapple fried rice with shrimp, the calamari appetizer, and the fresh spring rolls, and they were all very large portions and so good. I also got Thai iced tea, and it came in a super cute seal cup, not sure what kind of magic that was, but I loved it. Tasted as good as it would have if I had dined in. I will...

My wife and I recently moved to Colonial Heights and are in the process of finding our go-to Thai restaurant since it's one of our favorite quisines. After a quick Yelp search we decided to Kacha since it's the closest place to us.

The interior of the restaurant felt clean and the staff was pleasant enough but the food was pretty poor.

I ordered the chicken pad thai like I always do when trying a new place; I feel like it's a standard dish and a good measuring stick. My wife ordered the pad see ew. First, we weren't asked how spicy we'd like our dishes. Every time I've ordered a pad Thai I've been asked if I want it mild, medium, hot, or Thai hot. I usually opt for medium or hot but since I wasn't asked I ended up with a completely mild dish. The second and bigger problem is that both of our dishes were overwhelming sweet. The pad Thai came in a thick, dark, syrupy sauce which made it greasier and sweeter than it should have been. Pad Thai should have some crispness and freshness to it from the vegetables, peanuts, and basil but that was completely lacking. The vegetables were soggy from the syrup and there wasn't any basil to be found.

Unfortunately we won't be going back to Kacha and wouldn't recommend it until they adjust...

I don't know where all of these five star ratings are coming from. I have only been to this restaurant a few times since the sudden change over from Elephant Thai to Kacha Thai. Each time after I ate from the buffet the past, the food had a pleasant taste to it, but I had an upset stomach and eventually diarrhea.

The last couple of times I ate at this restaurant, to include this week, I had a terrible headache shortly after eating from the buffet. I don't know if it is the grease or the MSG, but there's definitely something going on with whatever it is this place is putting in its food.

I was also turned off by all the grease that the main dishes were soaking in. I drained most of the grease off of my food this time which is probably why I did not end up with an upset stomach. I did have a headache that lasted into the next day; I just felt terrible. By the way, the server did not check on me one time while I was there.

This last visit will be my last to this restaurant, especially after the slow service to replenish the main dishes on the buffet and all I got was an excuse for the slow service. I was still charged the full price for the buffet, which I am not and was not...

I came to Kacha Thai on Saturday with four friends. I ordered a Thai tea, crying tiger, and crispy duck. Everything tasted amazing, as always. My only complaint was that the service was very... weird. My party arrived at 5:22. The server proceeded to tell us that they closed at 6 pm (on a Saturday?) And make us feel like we should not dine in. We sat down anyway. Despite the initial rush, the server was somewhat slow getting our orders. Food came out in good time. It got really weird when more people came in. We heard the server turn away several other parties, stating that the restaurant closed at "5:40" to one, then "5:30" to another party. To-go orders were still steadily coming in, so this made no sense. Another party came in and a different employee seated them with no problem. One of the parties that had been turned away observed this and came back in to ask what was happening, which led to more confusion and awkwardness. The whole experience was weird. Kacha Thai may want to update its hours online and on the door, and educate its employees on when they actually close and how to communicate this.

On my way to run errands in Colonial Heights last Saturday, I decided to treat myself to lunch since I hadn't been to Kacha in a long time. I chose 2 dishes I've never eaten before - the glass noodle salad (Yum Woonsen) & the Pad Wild Elephant. Both menu descriptions said "hot", but I wish their spiciness levels had been more clearly specified. IMO, the heat of the Yum Woonsen was in the mild to medium range, and I loved the tang from the lime juice in its dressing. The Pad dish, on the other hand, was too spicy for me to totally enjoy it. The rice had soaked up the oils from the chili paste sauce, so it was no help taming the heat. My lips and tongue were tingling hours later! lol And since I was told they can't adjust the recipe to tone down the spiciness, I won't be ordering that particular item again. But I will be back because there are other dishes I want to try; I'll just make sure to ask how spicy they are BEFORE I order from now on.
