I booked a couple of rooms during our trip to attend the AMO Convention at the Keystone Antique Truck and Tractor Museum in Colonial Heights, VA. The location was reasonably close to the venue, making it quite convenient. The rooms were priced at about $77.00 per night, which was affordable but lacked some of the amenities found in higher-priced hotels. The bed was comfortable enough but not particularly firm, and there were only two pillows in each room. The second room had pillows that were oddly square-shaped, more like cushions. The only seating options were a desk chair and an extra chair similar to those you'd find at a table. Both rooms featured kitchenettes, and the bathroom and sink areas were clean and well-maintained. The main issues we encountered were with the room door. It was difficult to close and secure the latch, and the key card scanner was unreliable. We had to make multiple attempts each time we tried to enter the room. Although the front desk clerk managed to get it to work with a single swipe, we continued to struggle with it throughout our stay. We planned to use the outdoor pool, but there were no chairs available. The pool itself looked clean, but the lack of seating was disappointing for those who wanted to relax by the water or dry off in the sun. Although a free continental breakfast was advertised, there was nothing available when we went to get coffee. It’s unclear if we were too early or if other guests had already taken everything and it hadn't been restocked. Fortunately, we preferred a full breakfast, so this wasn’t a major issue for us. On a positive note, there was a pleasant little pond near our rooms, complete with geese and turtles, which added a nice touch to the surroundings. Overall, aside from the problematic door and the absence of pool chairs, this place is suitable if you’re simply looking for a place to sleep. If you require more amenities like premium pillows, firm beds, a full breakfast, and poolside chairs, you’ll need to look elsewhere and likely pay more. For the price, it was a decent stay.

Checked in June 30th around 1130pm and I was tired just drove 5hrs from Fort Jackson South Carolina. Lady at front is very combative and aggressive. Told I need first floor to unload stuff she gave me first floor very far from parking lot and no carts at all to bring stuff to room. Got to room with some stuff and she came running room saying I can't park there and I said I told you I had to unload stuff she said I cannot leave in car and she said also you have to move car I said ok after I unload my stuff she said ok and the ask me why is there water in front of door I said from my cooler it leak because it tilted when I was carrying stuff and funny all room are leaking water from air conditioner in front of rooms and she doesn't wear shoes had only black socks on. Then I go to lay down on bed and there are several stains on sheets and cigarettes holes disgusting and toilet keeps running. I try to call front desk but there is no phone in room interesting. I call front from my cell and she starts arguing with me that there are no stains or cigarette holes and nothing about running toilet and keeps saying there is none sheet are clean and doesn't offer a different room just tells she will refund my money and I can check out. Horrible customer service. Funny I work in hotel industry for like 9 years and would never treat a customer like this. I will speak to manager tomorrow and we will see what happens and I was going to stay several days. This was a last minute thing and only one with 1st floor and she bait and switched me with price from when I spoke to her on the phone she gave me lower price. One of the worst stays at a hotel and I travel a lot. I would not recommend this place at all. There are no hair dryers in room and towels are very small almost size of hand towel.

Two days reserved over week in advance. I got called two hours before my arrival by hotel asking if I was coming. Should have been my first red flag. Got to hotel and was informed by the very nice person working front that my room was next to major construction project. I asked her how the choice was made to put me in that room. She told me that she had another room available down hall from construction and showed it to me. She informed me that they have a roach problem but the room was cleaned today. Kitchenette was disgusting and I snapped this picture of roach before I grabbed my things and ran out. They refunded my room and I went elsewhere. If there are roaches in one room they are everywhere. Close down and fog the entire hotel. Doing remodel with roaches makes no sense. Lesson learned. Felt sorry for very nice worker.

This hotel seems to be in the midst of updating and they are working hard to make it a nice place. The lobby is very nice and pretty, with stylish couches. Staff: The staff are incredibly friendly. If you have an issue they will resolve it quickly for you. When the toilet clogged late at night they brought a plunger to us. When we needed towels, more coffee, a light bulb replaced, ect, they made extra sure we were accommodated.

Why we chose to stay here: We were on a tight budget. We needed a room with two beds because we were a larger group. We traveled from Oregon out to South Carolina to see my husband graduate from basic training, and then came out to Hopewell with him to bring him to Fort Lee. He was able to spend time with us all weekend and this hotel was our home away from home. It was located right on the main road so we were able to navigate to the local attractions easily.

Cleanliness: We were on a tight budget so expected it to be less than fancy and it was basic but clean. In fact... This hotel was cleaner and smelled nicer than the expensive one my mother in law booked for us in South Carolina. When we needed new towels, they provided them. When we needed more pillows, they provided them. When a light stopped working, they replaced it. Just communicate with the staff and they will set you right up. The microwave, coffee pot, toilet and surfaces were nice and clean.

Noise: I rarely heard our neighbors aside from if someone walked by out front. We did have a room facing the main road, I imagine you could request one that wasn't. We could hear it but it didn't bother us. If you are a light sleeper, ear plugs at any hotel make sense anyway. The one thing I think all of us felt was too loud was the bathroom fan, and we moved the floor lamp into the restroom when we needed to use the toilet and only used the fan of we were showering.

Pool: I can't say anything about the pool, we didn't have time to try it out and didn't go to it. There is a lovely pond near it with a family of geese that have goslings as of me writing this march 2023

Entertainment: If you come here expecting to watch something, bring your laptop and an HDMI cable so you can hook your computer to the screen. They have fast internet. We were able to game together on ours and steam video, while my mother in law worked remotely. The cable is spotty but we were not planning to use it anyway.

Bedding: the sheets felt nice and clean. The pillows are softer and I like a firmer pillow so I asked for a couple more and they gave us extra. My mother in law said the blanket was thin, but she didn't ask for an extra. My husband and I get warm when we sleep, so we didn't either. They probably would have given more blankets to us had we requested, based on how they provided everything else. I will stay here again if I have a chance to visit my husband before he...
