I started as a patient at MMC right before Dr. Pinakin Patel retired. I LOVED his bedside manner and was nervous when I heard he’d left and his daughter took over since I’d never met with her, but she’s honestly my favorite doctor. She’s supportive, and as someone with diagnosed OCD who also has a lot of health anxiety (similar to another reviewer) related to my kidney disease, she understands that feature of my personality and is accommodating of it rather than judgmental. If she senses I’m nervous or scared, she asks me questions or asks if I’m okay before ending the appointment, or explains everything realistically to help keep me from jumping to negative conclusions. She’s also made herself available for patients, so if you ever have concerns or questions for the clinic she’ll call you back personally to answer them.
I moved to San Antonio a few years ago and was nervous I wouldn’t find a good nephrologist here who could match what I’ve found with Dr. Patel. Unsurprisingly, I didn’t find anyone and I’ve gone two years no without treatment because of it. I recently emailed Dr. Patel and asked if she would be willing to continue my treatment despite my location, and she agreed. So now I’ll be driving in to Houston a few times a year to continue to monitor my condition and I feel so relieved knowing I can continue my care with her. Totally worth the 6hr round...
Read moreI will never be able to fully thank Dr. Ritu or Pinakin Patel. If it wasn't for these amazing doctors I would not have my sweet girl. In 2016 after a bite from a copperhead and a stay in the ICU, my daughter was sent home from the hospital. She was fine for a week or so and then took a drastic turn. She started getting sick, with no appetite, slept all the time, lost a large amount of weight, lost some of her hair and even some fingernails. We saw countless doctors and none of those doctors could figure out what was wrong with her. We made an appointment with Dr Pinakin Patel and he consulted with Dr. Ritu Patel, his daughter, together they diagnosed my daughter and within 2 weeks my daughter was on the mend. Dr. Ritu Patel took over her dad's practice when he retired and I tell anyone that will listen just how amazing she is. How will I ever be able to thank these doctors for giving my daughter her health back? My daughter will be on meds for the rest of her life but even now seven years later she is...
Read moreWhen his daughter took over this practice it went downhill. I don’t appreciate being made to feel ashamed for not being able to get over an illness without medicine. The entire staff is very unhelpful via phone, and don’t expect a call back from the doctor, unless she feels like it. The staff also doesn’t communicate, I received different answers to my questions from different people. Also the doctor mainly sees you, takes your money, and then wants you to see a specialist. Not having insurance, this wasn’t an option for me at the time. And don’t waste your time asking her to call in any medicine for you, it won’t happen without an office visit, even if it’s a recurring problem. The last time this happened was with my migraine medication, which I have taken for years. I have since switched physicians and will never go back. So did several other people...
