Buyer Beware I stopped in the Monkee’s store in Birkdale to look for some outfits for my wife. I ended up buying two separate outfits with the understanding that she would only be using one if she’d liked it at all for our upcoming trip. They sold me both outfits, totaling $472.97 and I left as a happy customer. Unfortunately, when my wife tried to return the unwanted items, she was alerted of the fact that they would only provide an in-store credit. I called the owner, Kim Darcy, directly and she said that this is her store policy and she would not honor the refund as was the agreed-upon understanding by me and her salespeople. Upon looking at the receipt, it does state their in-store credit policy for returns, but there was never any explanation of it and the receipt was just put in the bag with the items. During our conversation she did offer a 10% discount on future purchases, using the in-store credit gift card, as a concession for her hostage sales tactics. There was never any mention of the in-store credit only policy nor any signage anywhere, and her sales people were very clear with my desire to have one or all of these items returned the next day if necessary. In a time when we want to support local businesses more than ever, one would think that they would treat customers better than the big box stores, where you can buy and return for a full refund at will, not worse! My first time in Monkee’s of Lake Norman. I had the pleasure of meeting Kim the owner of this location. She is the sweetest, kindest & has incredible taste!

This store is beautifully decorated, bright & cheerful & packed with top Designer clothing & accessories.

I noticed all of the high-quality jeans, as well as beautiful blazers that you may even find at Nordstrom without having to schlep all the way to South Park & endure the agonizing traffic on 77. No thanks to that!

This Monkee’s location is family-owned & operated. Locals y’all!

As I explored, I noticed designer names that I have seen on celebrities. Not many boutiques in Lake Norman offer these brands.

For their one year anniversary on August 16-18, they are offering something special for customers that make a purchase & support their small business. Ask the store for details!!!!

If i could give Monkee’s of Lake Norman more stars I would. Mostly for the people that smile & greet everyone, ask if they need help finding something. Some boutiques simply aren’t friendly to the customers that walk in, not here! Monkee’s treat their customers like family.

So happy to have met them and I plan on returning.

PS for those of you that love a bargain, there’s a pretty good sale going on. Stop by!

Fun shopping atmosphere to shop in. However, customer service was terrible; condescending, unattentive. Asked a member of the staff for help with a certain size and was left waiting for extended time as the staff member helped other familiar customers that arrived while I was waiting for her return. Will not be back. All the other boutiques I visited in Birkdale were very helpful, attentive, and friendly. Monkees is not the only place to find what you’re looking for...
