We had the shrimp pad thai and for some reason this batch was overly salty. It's my usual go-to so I'm fully aware that pad thai is supposed to be a mixture of sweet, salty, tangy, and sour. However, this batch was just too much on the salty side. After only a few bites and several glasses of water, my girlfriend asked the waiter if they could take it back. The waiter was super supportive; he nicely asked if we'd like a replacement or a substitute. I considered ordering the same dish, hoping they could reduce the amount of fish sauce/salt but my girlfriend confirmed with the waiter that the sauce is premade and it wouldn't change the sodium content. We considered not ordering anything else but I had my eye on the tom yum soup from the beginning but thought we had too much food already. Since I didn't order it earlier, I then asked for the soup as the substitute.
The reason why I'm not providing a 5-star review is because, when the manager brought out the soup, he made sure to mention that the soup is one of their most saltiest options; I'm not sure of his intentions but I felt like he was trying to belittle our opinion, which just destroyed our appetite. I'm aware that the standard tom yum soup has a high sodium content in its recipe, and I'm fine with that as that is exactly what the soup is. My problem is simple, and it was that the pad thai was overly salted and it ruined the dish completely. We enjoyed our previous visit but after yesterday, we're unsure about trying this place again. However, I'm still providing a 4-star review because the waiter was super patient and supportive; and because our first visit was surprisingly delightful. *Note, the tom yum was actually bland with no traces of salt at all, haha! The seared chicken and shrimp is a nice twist to the recipe though, that was...
Read moreWhen my husband and I lived in Cornelius we used to be frequent flyers here. Food was always great, service was on par, atmosphere is clean and modern. I will note a slight decline in quality since Bobby (former head chef who was amazing) left. There were however some slight improvements to the menu when new management took over. There was a great shake up with the cocktail menu and there was a healthy rotation of local craft beers.
Since we were back in Charlotte for a quick visit, we had to stop in on our old favorite place. We got the usual friendly greeting and seated promptly. Our waitress was Katie. She didn’t seem very happy. She took our orders. Everything came out in a timely fashion. My sweet tea was turned into a unsweetened tea as I got my refills. I didn’t complain. Katie seemed to be having a bad night already and I didn’t want to bother her with something simple. Our food was on point though. We got the pork belly steam buns (which were super delicious), the bento box and the impersonator roll (not on the menu). Everything was delicious, and no complaints. Just so much food we couldn’t finish it all. Just as good as we remembered! So happy we came back! We will come again if we get the chance.
The reason I’m giving 4 rather than 5 stars is for Katie’s poor attitude. You shouldn’t let your bad day affect the customer service you give. We pay good money for good food AND service. She really must have had something going on because it wasn’t even busy at the time we came (1630) and the manager had to bring our our food. The guy isn’t a server so of course he forgot our soy sauce dishes which I had to ask for. Also, I was very disappointed to see that the local craft beer rotation stopped. It was exactly the same as was it was last year when we...
Read moreNever again ! I’ve been come to this restaurant for about 10 years now. The food is still consistently good but what good is the food if wait to be seated and served takes over a hour.
I came a week ago. I was told by the blonde hostess it would be a 45 minute wait. I came from a hour away to show off the restaurant to family members that I advertised had great sushi. I sent a message to the hostess asking about the wait once my 45 minutes were up. No response. I then came up to the door and asked her and I could see my message blinking on her tablet because she didn’t acknowledge it. I then waited another 30 minutes and had to call for the manager when I saw people that came after me were being seated. Mind you there was plenty of seating each time I came by , inside and outside.
I waited two weeks before I returned with a meeting group of people. Same hostess. This time she was gesturing to me and speaking to the other young lady with her. This time I waited 1 hour 20 minutes. I didn’t say anything because I didn’t want to make a scene. After being seated I’m forced to wait another hour for my food. I’m about to complain and I see my waitress with two sushi rolls from the sushi chef so I’m thinking she’s going to bring them to the table. Instead they went to a family that was seated about 30 minutes after our group.
Only when I told the waitress that I was leaving within 5 minutes I got my food.
I have for years advertised this restaurant with pride. From here on out I will make it my mission to boycott this restaurant! With great sushi places like oku and akahana there is no more need to depend on this one location for good roll. This place is sitting on its reviews it has received over the years but it’s...
