We visited Midwood Smokehouse in Birkdale Village Sunday prior to attending Christmas with The Chosen movie. This was our first ever visit to a Midwood Smokehouse. When we walked in the door, the smell was amazing! It was a nice smoky bbq smell. Ashley greeted us as we entered and was also our waitress.
Off the top, she was very welcoming, smiling and very happy. Once we were seated she got our drink orders for us. We told her this was our first visit. She explained about the specials of the day, about the restaurants other offerings and the restaurant in general. We followed her recommendation and got the 4 meat sampler. We had pork bbq, beef brisket, burnt ends and a half rack of ribs. Our sides were bbq beans and broccoli casserole. The plate also came with hush puppies and pickles. There was plenty off food for my wife and I and this was also a cheaper option for us and allowed us to sample several menu items. The food came out quick, hot and fresh.
It all tasted fantastic! Ashley kept our drinks full and was continually checking on us. Both of the sauces tasted very good. They offered a western and eastern style bbq sauce. The burnt ends need no sauce, they were cooked in a cola bbq sauce. The ribs were served dry, which I prefer. I like to taste the meat and just add a small amount of sauce if I wish. Some restaurants will smother ribs in sauce and you get no taste of the meat. The brisket was very tender and the chopped pork bbq was nice and fresh with no fat in it.
The atmosphere of the restaurant was very nice and I can’t say enough about Ashley! Her attitude, joy, happiness and smile was a great starter and made for a very pleasant dining experience. We will definitely be returning to Midwood Smokehouse and I recommend them to anyone in the area of Huntersville. They do have other locations in the Charlotte area and soon to be in...
Read moreMinus one (1) Star. First time dining at the Midwood since February 2020 due to Covid. Service and food has always been extraordinary in the past. Despite the steep increase in the menu prices, the service was excellent, but the food did not live up to our expectations. The BBQ and brisket sandwiches were delicious.. but the green bean casserole was awful. The beans were undercooked or dried up and had the consistency of beef jerky. Despite the inedible beans, I was pleased to note that the Midwood Smokehouse still offers a discount to folks who have served. US Navy retired. Your mileage will vary.
UPDATE Sept 2022 - Minus another Star
We made it back to Midwood for another lunch. Service was great, thank you Hayden, but the BBQ was lacking. Seems the recipe or ingredients for the BBQ may have changed or the cook did not follow the recipe. I always get the BBQ sandwich and this time the meat was very salty and extremely spicy, probably too much red or another type of hot pepper. I had to squirt a bunch of sweet BBQ sauce on top of my sandwich to make it edible. Not sure what changed, but I probably will not order BBQ again, which is what Midwood is known for.
As like everything else, prices had gone up again since our last visit. I sure do miss those pre-Covid days when most lunch items were well under $10 each. Now most lunch items are pushing $15. Almost a 50% price increase. Fortunately the military discount helps since I'm retired military, but being on a fixed income makes purchasing anything these days very challenging.
I certainly hope Midwood gets their BBQ act together, cause I'll only give them one more opportunity to get it right. They used to have the best five (5) Star BBQ restaurant town - sadly it appears that's not...
Read moreWe had a reservation at 7pm for 10 people last night . We were visiting our son at Davidson for family weekend and it coincided with his birthday. When we arrived at 7pm we were told they were clearing the table for us. At 7:15pm we were still waiting. When I asked why it was taking so long to clear the table, the hostess told us they were actually waiting for one of two tables to leave to make the table for 10 but that both tables had their checks so it shouldn't be long .At 7:25 we were still waiting and I asked the several people at the hostess station if they could please do something. All 10 of us had been standing in the vestibule for a table we had reserved for 7pm. One of the hostesses said they were clearing the table to which I responded that we had been told that incorrectly when we got there almost half an hour ago. When I turned around my daughter saw her roll her eyes. First, it would have been nice if they told us the truth to begin with and second, it would have been nice if they offered us a drink at the bar or something while we waited .We were finally seated at 7:30. Although the waiter was very friendly, it took another 30 minutes for our order to be taken only to find that they were out of ribs so three of our party had to choose something else. There food was fine and the waiter really was very pleasant and helpful and apologetic for the ribs being sold out. But in all, the evening was a bit disappointing. When a restaurant keeps a large party with a reservation waiting half an hour, instead of getting an attitude, a sincere apology would have been nice and possibly a complimentary beverage to make up for the delay. Won't be returning here on our...
