I love how Aldi has changed, and I used it frequently back when I lived in Miami. As soon as I moved to Madison and discovered there was an Aldi nearby, I added it immediately to my shopping list!
This Aldi was nice, certainly because it's new, but also because I was greeted by every employee I encountered and asked if I was finding everything alright. (So lovely to be back in the South!)
Now, Aldi isn't going to be your one-stop-shop necessarily. What I find Aldi most useful for, personally, is to stock my pantry with canned veggies, their tortilla chips and salsa, and a few of their fit-n-active items. I can get $50 worth of stuff here for what would've been about $65-70 at Target or Publix.
FYI, they now carry some organic and gluten-free items. I believe they also carry tofu now as well (don't quote me on this one).
A FEW THINGS TO KNOW, HOWEVER-- Bring a quarter. You'll put it in a slot on a cart to get one, but don't worry, you'll get it back after you use the cart and put it back in the corral. Bring your own bags, unless you want to buy them from Aldi. They don't supply you with bags for free, but I've heard their bags are of good quality and can be used a few times. I have my own collection of reusable bags, so it isn't an issue for me. NO CREDIT CARDS. Only cash or debit. Not sure about checks. The store is literally a one-way maze. It's not designed like a regular supermarket, so if you forget something back on the first aisle, you'll likely have to snake your way back to get it. Not much of an issue unless it's packed, then in that...
Read more1/8/2024 Very rude customer service by a cashier named Krysten today. I returned an item WITH receipt (it was purchased 2 days ago). The cashier threw my original receipt in the trash and said that she could not give my receipt back, despite my explaining that I had other items (gym stuff) that I may need to return at a later point. She called her supervisor (Mia?) who dug the receipt from the trash, scratched out the item I had returned, and gave it back to me. I told Mia that this is a training issue and she said she would deal with it. I've shopped at this Aldi's since it opened, and this was the first time I experienced rude, discourteous, and arrogant behavior from an Aldi's employee, notwithstanding that she was in the wrong. Another supervisor also came into the mix. Nobody apologized, despite it clearly being a training issue on the return process. But what was worse is the cashier's attitude when I asked for my original receipt back. The 2 supervisors did say they would talk to the cashier. Props to Mia for digging through the trash for finding my receipt sans any stains. This may have been an aberration, given the years I have been shopping there, but cashiers like Krysten need to get re-trained or look for another...
Read moreI’m a huge fan of Aldi! With a family of 7 I preach to people that even aldi beats Costco and other membership bulk stores. Until moving to this area I feel like this particular aldi suffers from quality control. The fresh produce in particular is mostly bad on the shelf and when I do find a good product is goes bad before I need it (I grocery shop once a week). During one visit I was scouring the shelves for garlic that wasn’t molded. I asked the employee who was currently stocking the produce if I was just coming on the wrong day and the food was on its last leg, but he said they stock daily. Every broccoli head had mold; he had just shelved them. Recently, I’ve had to return meat that is rancid. Aldi has a great return policy and no one ever hassles me, but it’s an absolute inconvenience when I go to make the meal and my ingredients have prematurely expired. I’ve contemplated trying other aldis in the area, but, ultimately, I may just have to switch to Kroger for all fresh...
