Honestly I am not sure where to start. I wanted to take my fiancee out for a good New Years dinner and we heard good things about this outback even though the last time we went a roach was literally crawling on my date and all we got was a "that sucks pay your tab and leave", I had to delete that scathing review to post this one since they only allow 1 review but that is another story. So we decided to try again. We walked in and stood at the door waiting. The host was nowhere to be seen, and the wait staff was hanging out at the bar falling all over themselves yelling. The host eventually releases himself from the conversation and walks through to seat us. Our waiter came and got our drinks and apps. 30 minutes later, she informs us they burnt the bloomin onion so we have to keep waiting, still havent brought the bread so I asked her to. 15 more minutes and the onion, fries and the bread finally come out. Already been here an hour and just got the apps. Waiter hasnt checked on us once. We decide to go simple since the are already having trouble and order a burger and some chicken tenders. The bloomin onion was a complete salt bomb so we couldnt even eat it. 30 minutes later our order comes out. You would think for $20 the chicken would be of decent size, nope. After tearing off all the burnt breading I had the same amount of breading and chicken. It looked like I purchased 4 popcorn chicken and a pile of breadcrumbs. The burger was good, I will say that, but it doesn't salvage the night. Waiter still hasnt checked on us. Drops off our food and leaves to chat in the back. After eating, we had no drink left, and needed some other items. No one is to be seen in the restaurant except 2 VERY loud ladies at the bar and the couple behind us. Almost 2 hours now, and the waiter comes to get us drinks and sauces. We ask for to-go boxes. Waiter dissapears. 15 minutes later we get the boxes and she has the gall to ask us if we want dessert. Pay the tab with an old gift card and cash, and she never comes back with receipt or change, we even waited 20 more minutes to make sure we had paid enough. Had to go ask the bartender if we could go. On the way out we see out waiter, she decided to go sit down and eat. 2 and a haf hours for subpar food, waste of $65, and a terrible night. Btw, turns out the couple behind us was the host and his little girlfriend, thats what he was doing the whole time. They would leave and go hide in the dark corner for a while then sit back down. The cooks were SCREAMING the entire meal in the back chanting and yelling. The 2 ladies at the bar talking about their mans being messed up the entire time. The saddest part is there was MAX 5 tables in the whole restaurant that had people, so there was no excuse. There will be no third times a charm...
Read moreMy wife and I visited the Outback Steakhouse located on Hwy 72, between Hughes and Nance Rd. We arrived shortly before 5pm on a Friday night. Although the making lot was almost completely filled we were seated right away. We were greeted by our server, Triston and we ordered our drinks, sweet tea. We already know what we want to order for the meals so Triston also took our food order.
My wife ordered the four course meal, a Wedge salad with wedge of fresh iceberg lettuce, chopped bacon, grape tomatoes, red onions, Blue Cheese dressing and Blue Cheese crumbles and topped with a sweet balsamic glaze. The Wedge salad is only one ($1) dollar more than the houses salad but is a substantial sized salad. She ordered baked potato soup as her side. Her entree was the six ounce sirloin with Mac & cheese.
I also ordered the four course meal but I requested the Caesar salad with Ranch Dressing. My soup I ordered the Chicken Tortilla soup, Chicken breast in a seasoned broth, topped with Monterey Jack and Cheddar cheese, cilantro and crispy tortilla strips. For my entree I ordered the 6 ounce sirloin (medium) with Broccoli and Cheese.
After taking our order, our server offered to bring us some fresh bread. It was a warm mini loaf of Rye bread with a small dish of butter. The bread was warm and sweet. A perfect snack to enjoy while waiting for our meal.
Our four course meal arrived within several minutes from when we ordered them. Everything was piping hot and fresh. The salads were crisp and fresh. My Chicken Tortilla soup was hot and flavorful. The Broccoli and Cheese was well cooked so that I could eat the Broccoli florets as well as the stems. Very tender and very cheesy.
My sirloin steak was cooked perfectly and lightly seasoned. The steak was tender, juicy and melted in my mouth. The sweet tea was fresh and cold.
After such a substantial meal we had no option but to have our dessert, New York Style cheesecake, Carmel and Chocolate sauce on the side in to-go containers to be enjoyed later that afternoon.
The total cost for both meals was $41.95 before tax. But for the quality and quantity of our meals were well with the price. It is difficult to find good quality cuts of steaks in local restaurants but our were just the right size to accompany our four course meal. Well seasoned, perfectly cooked and tender.
Although we do not eat out regularly this was a excellent meal with going out for. We enjoyed our New York Style Cheesecake later that afternoon. Although almost everyone tags their Cheesecake as "New York" style, I have yet to find a true gritty, firm New York Style Cheesecake. But Outback's cheesecake is very good and as close to we have found to a true New York Style Cheesecake. A perfect way to end a...
Read moreIt appears to me that Outback is priced as though their ingredients, food preparation and table service are premium and top-notch all around. That is definitely not my experience at the location on highway 72 in Madison. We dined there tonight after a long absence (due to similar factors from the previous visit). To cut to the chase, if you prefer not to waste time on my full review, I would say the rather average performance at this location results in the prices being about 30% overstated vs value. Well below ânot a good valueâ in my opinion. The two of us arrived a little before 6:00, and there was a crowd waiting to be seated. We were shown to a 2-top in the bar area after about the 25 minutes promised. That is the first big negative. The 2-tops do not have servers. They have a bartender who takes your order and who visited our table 4 times or so in the hour and a half we sat there. We successfully placed an order and received an appetizer, then waited a long while for our entrees. No one asked about more bread or offered to take our dirty dishes away. If there is a manager for this location, you could not prove it by my observation tonight, they certainly didnât visit our table. I finally flagged a passing employee down and asked them to check on our food. She returned in about 5 minutes with our order. I fear we would still be sitting there had I not taken that action. The quality of the ingredients appears good but doesnât look any better than what the Cisco truck probably delivers to the other restaurants up the road. I ordered the fried chicken steak (at least it looked like a pounded chicken breast on the menu picture â to allow for better crust to chicken ratio and enhance the flavor) but received what appeared to be a straight-out-of-the-bag chicken breast plopped with little fanfare into the fryer. The thicker parts had no connection to the batter whatsoever. The circumference of the finished product would have looked good protuding from the edges of a hamburger bun. It had no similarity to the menu picture. The baked sweet potato was good, not very hot, and unfortunately had the brown sugar I requested be left off. The broccoli was part mushy and part raw. Years ago, my family dined at Outback almost weekly. After their corporate upheavals, the result has lost the focus, impact and appeal of that original design. The staff are friendly and seem to have the best intentions. The restaurant had largely cleared out when we were able to pay and leave, including the couple who were escorted to their table just before us, and who finished their food and left before our food was delivered. For the privilege of sitting in the restaurant for two hours, we paid $90 for 2 drinks, two lessor-priced entrees and one...
