Bassett Furniture — Local services in Huntsville

We made some big purchases this week. We've lived in our home for a year and saved up for a dining table, headboard for our bed, and sofa for our basement. We've had a few rooms sitting empty for a year until we were ready. We finally were ready to start creating a plan and began the hunt. We went to every furniture store in Huntsville/Madison and were unable to find the right piece for a basement which is long and narrow and a challenge to say the least!

When we got to Bassett, we were greeted by Jana Dardin who listened carefully to what we were looking for. We immediately found the headboard for our bed....love that you can customize exactly what you want at Bassett! She walked us through the styles, fabrics, and trimmings. We loved the custom dining table too but weren't sure if we could fit the side hutch. So Jana asked us to go home, send her room dimensions and pictures of the area as well as the basement so that she could design our space. Cool! So we did and she did. We came back in this weekend and she was able to show us 2D renderings of what she designed for each area. We ended up purchasing the dining table which you can totally customize the finish, leg style, leaf, table edge, and chairs. I wanted some quirky, unique chair fabrics to match a chandelier we have our eye on and she pulled together some fabrics that work together with the table and chandelier. Then she helped us narrow down a paint swatch for the room!! And then helped us find the perfect rug for the dining room. The total package! It was great b/c Bassett has all of the fabrics in their showroom for you to lay eyes on so that you can totally see how they all go and flow together. Jana pulled a rug out that I would have never pulled that ended up being so perfect. Her design experience and eye were so critical to taking my vision and getting it all of the way there and then some! I'm so excited about my dining room!

Next, the basement challenge. It helped so much sitting down and watching Jana configure different pieces in 2D so that we could see how each piece fit the space. She took in our most critical requirement that the configuration maximize snuggling potential for my family. When we had the sectional configuration selected, once again Bassett makes most everything customizable. So Jana helped us select the fabric color and type and then pulled together accent pillow combinations that popped for a fun basement.

Jana and Bassett are AMAZING. I know right where we are heading first when we tackle the next rooms on our list! I had a semi-vision and Jana just made it EASY to get there. And...Bassett made it easy to get there with the way their showroom has the fabrics and carpet samples there so easy to put together...

We custom-ordered/purchased a living room suit from Bassett (Huntsville). Upon delivery of the order items, we discovered the cushion firmness for couch and chairs was not what we expected. Over the next few weeks, the issue worsened. We were frustrated due to the wait time which was no fault of the Bassett (Huntsville) store. Additionally, the quality was not what we expected for the price we paid.

We were convinced that we had paid a high price for something of low quality. Quality being based strictly on the lack of support provided by the cushions. Our concerns were relayed to the owner of the store, Michael Thurman. Mike called me directly w/ genuine concern. I expressed to him our expectations verses what we received. Reminder, this wasn’t fault of the store; however, it was a Bassett custom ordered product. Mike told me he wanted us to be happy with our purchase and wanted to make it right.

Mike took care of us that day and made things right! Several weeks later, the new cushions came in and we couldn’t be more comfortable … literally.

Lastly, I want to send recognition for the delivery driver - Maurice. Hands down the most professional and courteous individual we’ve dealt with in Alabama. If I owned a business, I’d recruit Maurice without hesitation. Maurice came out for three different deliveries and each time it was a pleasure having him in our home.

In December of 2020, my husband and I bought a beautiful “stain resistant” super high quality couch from this store. Customer service was flawless, everyone was so friendly, we got the couch and loved it, but one of the sections came a little ripped. We called customer service and we’re in touch with them for literally almost a year, and long story short they never replaced it, as they said they would. We were also virtually guaranteed this couch was stain resistant and a wipe clean type of thing. Let me tell you, it is not. It stains, it gets dingy, it pills, and the worst part is there is virtually no way to clean it since any liquid stains it worse. I was on the phone multiple times with customer service getting all the recommendations they had for cleaning, and all of them included liquid. I ended my final call with a very kind store employee and we both agreed that neither of us could figure out how I’m actually supposed to get stains out of this couch without using liquid. I spent hundreds on “dry cleaning” products, and after 3 years I have given up trying to make it look clean. I have just started to clean it with liquid and attempt to hide the water stains with throw blankets and pillows. We spent a LOT of money on this couch and while the customer service at first was a 10/10, I would highly recommend getting something cheaper that you can actually clean.
