Windermere House Apartments — Local services in Hyde Park Township

The service is absolutely terrible. They don’t take my comfort seriously or respect me.

Resident service laughed at me and hung up on me many times as I tried to get my second AC unit that is owed to me. I was called “uncooperative and unreasonable” because I want to have my only living area I have at $1785 a month plus electric at a comfortable temperature all year round.

After finally having the employee responsible for floor plans agree that my one bedroom gets a second AC unit due to its size and layout, I wouldn’t be able to get one until spring. So the alternative was to open my windows and expose myself to uncontrollable temperatures and extra noise.

They haven’t taken my comfort seriously. The service is terrible and the employees are terrible. I’ve wasted enough time and lost more than enough sleep.

The place itself is great, the room is awesome, and front desk staff is excellent. One star is being generous.

This past year at the Windermere has been one of the worse living experiences I've ever had. If you make the mistake of choosing to be a tenant at this property, be ready to expect: having your water shut off at least twice a month, poorly managed pest infestations, a mostly unresponsive resident services/management team, false promises of new building amenities, loud construction noises for months on end with no warning/explanation, foul smelling halls, and "renovated" units with a myriad of plumbing/infrastructure issues that will spiral and wreak havoc on your unit (for example, this week's new issue: RATS -- something that I've never, ever had to deal with in an apartment). Who knows what absolutely ridiculous inconvenience will rear its head next week.

And at the end of it all, they'll jack your rent up by 8-10% and continue to fail to address the majority of problems that you complain to them about. If you have ANY other options for apartments in Hyde Park, I highly recommend looking elsewhere, especially if you’re also a UChicago student.

Lived here for little over 3 years in a very spacious studio. The place is really close to the bus stop, the Museum of Science, Jackson Park, Michigan Lake, and a little over half a mile from UChicago. The apartment is managed by Mac apartments, so the rent is on the expensive side but the management is responsive and the building is kept up well. One thing that bugged me was the frequent failure of washers and dryers (2 each per floor). There were 8-10 times in my time there that I had to do figure out a different floor to do laundry on.
