This review is long due! It is relaying to the Sea Turtle Walks that they offer during the summer months. We had our walk on 7.9.21 and glad we finally were able to find reservations.
You meet the guides at Spressard Hollard North Park about 9pm. They check you in and you get to see and hear a presentation about all the types of turtles that come to the area to lay eggs and the ones in danger. It was very informative.
The walk happens at about midnight. Some guides go and check the beach for turtles to be seen. They are the only ones that are allowed by the city/county to be at the beach. If they sight some without being bothered, then the other guides lead the group to the area.
It started as a night were we may have to leave with no luck, but we sure did see some!
We were able to see Loggerhead turtles on their way to build their nest and one actually laying eggs!
We can't bother then or cross their paths, so the guides guided us to how and where to go as we saw some from afar or close by!
Heidi and Craig were awesome and they sure kept us engaged and with good energy! Thank you for being persistent and a great experience!
It rained the whole night we were there, so be prepared to get wet. Bring a poncho, umbrella and change of clothes just in case.
No photography is allowed and no lights from cellphones. Same applies for the lighting around the condos at the beach. Please follow and review the rules.
These walks do fill up quickly, so if you are interested, make sure you book them online at the...
Read moreI have always wanted to check this place out but always closed by the time I get off of work on business travel. Stop in and check out the educational information and possibly buy some bling to support a good cause of sea turtle preservation. These folks patrol the beach so they can mark nests and help educate guests and hotels to reduce light pollution that can disorient sea turtles coming ashore to lay eggs or hatchlings trying to make it out to sea. When I was in highschool I was a volunteer in SC in the summers for loggerhead turtles. I just wish they had simple logo t-shirts to buy in colors (not black or white) versus the more kitschy large decorative designs they seem to sell, if they had I certainly would have bought one or two. I did buy a patch to add to my overland vehicle pay...
