A few short years ago, this location was one of my favorite places for a stellar swim workout (and a 5 star review would be a no -brainer).
I find myself wondering if I'm the only one who feels that whoever decided on the outdoor summer pool schedules: *1- Doesn't have children *2- Is not an athletic person *3- Is definitely not a swimmer *4- Is somewhat out of touch with the preference (s) of the community *5- Doesn't spent much time outdoors *6- Inadequate communication skills
It's been said that: "Socialism is just Communism for Slow Learners."
I've personally lived in a communist country, so the subtle beginnings of such draconian policies stand out like viewing two suns in the sky.
With the knowledge that: *1- Summers are too short 2- Working people with kids are (typically) only free on Saturdays and Sundays... WHY would *ALL of the pools in the Indianapolis area be CLOSED ON SUNDAY....??? This decision certainly seems indicative of a lack of genuine connectivity with members who support what's supposed to be an institution based upon Christian values.
What gives a miniscule percentage of the city's population, aka the bureaucracy, the power to make such a sweeping decision to include EVERY YMCA in the area....?
I've also noticed that it's becoming more and more the norm for these administrative level people to be completely inaccessible on the phone. You won't find a contact number anymore.
If you're lucky to find an email address, your message is metaphorically compared to blowing bubbles into the wind.
I'm speaking out on behalf of the significant percentage of the Y members; every single day I hear them voice the same dissatisfaction with the outdoor pools Sunday closures (and 10 minute safety breaks for the adults).
We're all exhausted with hearing the same excuse over the last two years: "We don't have enough lifeguards."
It's not a case of a shortage on guards; it's more evidence of a shortage of creativity, ingenuity and higher intelligence.
It seems appropriate to conclude with an overly used, modern day cliche mantra: ""We're just doing what we're told."" ""We're just (blindly) following...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI love the Jordan YMCA. Walking through the door you see good people at the front desk. I look forward to seeing Jayne during the week and Chauncy on Saturdays. Jayne is on duty when sometimes it is crazy busy. She is so impressive! She solves problems, points people in the right direction, answers the phone, folds towels, collects and organizes lost and found, as she greets guests all with natural and personable flair. It is clear she takes pride in her work. The pool is what brought me to the facility. Your free swim and the aqua classes have changed my life exponentially. I live by the Monon Center, which is a beautiful facility, but I have physical limitations, and they cater to the lap swimmer and have no extended steps into the pool. Part of the time the mechanism that lowers you into the water has a dead battery. At the Jordan YMCA you have three options to get in and out of the pool. I use the steps, and love exercising in the shallow end or water jogging in the deep end which has reduced the chronic pain in my body by at 80 percent over the years. The aqua classes are wonderful. There are no expectations that we can do the moves equally. We are accepted as we are. Ali is remarkable and Lynn is too. So different in their styles, so similar in their complete dedication to teaching. And the people! Jess is serious about us and I appreciate what she has brought to center, including many activities I cannot participate in, but enjoy watching from time to time. And your lifeguards are outstanding. I am allergic to the sun, so donāt visit in the summer (sadly) but imagine the joy I felt when I saw three familiar faces life guarding when I returned to the indoor pool last week. I was joyous. Coming to the Y is like...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreEach staff member at this location is very welcoming "excluding" one membership specialist at the help desk (I'll leave her nameless). The Membership Specialist is the first person a new member interacts with, you'd think an individual in this position would be a "people person". This woman "never" appears to he happy and when you attempt to engage with her she provides a blank stare and never smiles. Outside of your experience with this one unhappy staff member. Everyone else makes you feel welcome, the facility is clean and there's more than enough good quality equipment. They provide Zumba, Yoga, and Cardio session to all members. It's really a good place to workout at. I agree with another review that mentioned summer camp. In the past years summer camp has gone downhill, the children entertain themselves for approximately 150 a week. The children sports programs aren't completely organized either, they are working on this. HOWEVER if you are looking to "workout" GREAT PLACE and nice people. (the also provide childcare for child while you workout,...
