UPDATE: The owner reached out after my last review, which I thought was pretty classy, so we gave the place another try. It was winter, so we avoided walking around the entire building complex to enter like we did previously trying to get an outdoor table.
We actually arrived a little after 4:00 on a weekday, which allowed us to peruse their happy hour offerings. We decided to try a variety of items to share, so we went with the Cheese Curds ($4), Fried Pickles ($4), Spicy Garlic Cauliflower ($4), two Fish Tacos ($4 each), a Nashville Chicken Slider ($5), and the Hand Cut Fries ($5.49) that we didn't receive last time. Most of these items were standard pub fare. Of the $4 items, the Cauliflower is the star. The fries were to my liking, although they were too unseasoned for my wife. The slider was bigger than I anticipated and tasted pretty good. While I didn't notice it, my wife said afterward that the fish taco had an odor and she struggled to eat but didn't want to say anything while I was eating.
So if you're wondering why I still only award 3 of 5 stars (beyond the taco's potential smell), I'll share. We were 1 of maybe 4 tables, yet the service was a tad sluggish and an item was failed to be delivered again. I ordered a beer that never came, so I just made sure they took it off the bill when I paid.
So overall, the food is mostly fine to good (although my wife might disagree). The challenge is that we're 2 for 2 on not receiving everything we order and service hasn't necessarily been prompt regardless of the crowd or time of day. Came here for the 1st time on a Wednesday date night to meet another couple hoping to dine outside on a pleasant weather evening. Reaching the front door, there was a sign that indicated for patio seating you had to turn and walk around to access it. Turns out, we had to walk north around the entire strip building back towards 86th street, past the side facing 86th street, and then back towards the backside of the building. We missed the host stand walking up as there was a larger-than-life connect 4 being played by some kids and other folks wandering around. After walking towards the outdoor bar, we were directed back towards the host stand where the host indicated it would be a wait for a table, but that we could dine on the upstairs patio if we wanted. After telling us how to get there, we arrived to find all of the tables on that patio full and just starting their dining experiences as well. We then walked indoors to the upstairs bar area where there were a number of tables available, but found our friends already at a table in the downstairs family dining area, so we headed down.
Our server seemed to be working hard, but she was definitely stretched thin. She appeared to be the bartender for the downstairs bar, but also was tending to the booths in the bar area AND the tables in the family dining area. Needless to say, the service wasn't overly attentive, but I don't blame our server for that.
My wife and I each ordered a drink. I chose the Pirate Cat Porter, which had a $5 pint special. It was fine, but it was a little more bitter and hoppy than I prefer, so I didn't order a 2nd one. My wife ordered an Ash & Elm Cider, which I thought was also on tap, but turned out to be a 12 oz can. For $8, that seemed a bit steep considering you could get a 4...

My girlfriend and I decided to try this place out after apartment hunting and a walk on the Monon. I heard some buzz about this place and was eager to check it out. I had my service dog, Quest, with us. As we walked in, one of the employees was saying we'd need to go around to the back on the patio. After not understanding why that would be, he explained that dogs aren't allowed in the restaurant.
I told him that this is a service dog and he's allowed anywhere I'm allowed, but he stood his ground, saying that is the directive the owner gave him. I asked to speak to the owner and the employee said he is in Chicago. I asked to speak to the manager and he said that he was the manager on duty. After a bit of back and forth, he said we'd be allowed into the restaurant and to sit wherever. To me, it felt like he was making an exception.
My girlfriend and I sat for a couple of minutes but decided to leave since we didn't feel welcome at this establishment. We then walked across the street to Target's cafe where no one really even questioned or even noticed my dog. I spent $3 there on a pastry rather than the $20 something I would've spent on a full meal and drinks.
I guess I can say the one star is for helping...
