Today I went to Mage's Comics and Games
Back story I had a bad experience at another shop and one of the owners reached out to me to try and help me out because I was not treated right at another place. He offered to trade out a Jumpstart box I got stuck with for a play booster box. Mind you I did not buy it at his store. So just above and beyond for the community.
I was expecting a game store with some comics. Oh boy was I wrong. This place is rad. They had good music playing and it is a true comic book store with some spots to sit and read and some to play games. The music was on point all and all a real gem. The kind of place I thought was gone. I ended up buying a comic title that I did not know was ever made but has amazing art and the gent at the counter was on point with his love and knowledge of comics. Then my partner bought an art book and that prompted a whole conversation on art. I did not have a lot of time to spend there but it was time well spent.
The biggest issue was the box I had was worth quite a bit less than the play booster box so I was wanting to pay the difference to do what's right. They wanted to trade it because that is what I was told would happen. We ended up meeting at a place I hope everyone thought was fair.
Now I am going to take this box make one or 2 bracket 1 commander decks and make it to their commander night soon.
This was a 54 min drive for me and I think...
Read moreI visited Mage's on a Saturday and was really impressed with this store. First off the store was pretty busy for a Saturday afternoon which was a pleasant surprise as I've been in some stores recently and you have to stop to let the tumbleweeds go by. I think most of the traffic was due to some gaming event but I did see quite a few people browsing comics which is why I was there. I like the fact that this store was large and I had space to look for the back issues that I needed. I found quite a few back issues and thought the pricing was decent on them. I like how they have a large section of racks with key issues and new comics mixed together - it was nice to browse and see everything they had. My only gripe would be the organization of the back issues which is my gripe with almost every shop I've been to. It was a bit daunting to find what I was looking for when volumes weren't sorted but this is common. If anyone was looking for X-men #1 (1991) just know that I found about 20 of the various covers mixed in the back issues and moved them to the front - you're welcome! I live on the northside so it's haul to get to this shop but I will return as this place...
