If you love the experience of buying a used car from a shady dealership, this is the place for you. Do not trust what the salespeople tell you about discounts because they will sneakily try to not honor it. It’s obvious that this is a commission-based sales industry where your loss is their gain. You need to be vigilant and triple check that the math-is correct at Mathis Home.
Here is my experience: Found a couch and a loveseat at a discounted price because it was the display model. They were in good condition so I agreed to purchase. Told me about a promotion for rug discount if you spend a certain amount. Agreed to purchase 2 rugs due to the discount. Also added a dining table and chairs. Was told chairs were included in the price. After doing some simple math for all the items at the agreed price, it should’ve been around $5500. When I agreed to purchase a day later, I get a text with a link for payment. Total amount is over $9000. Funny thing is they don’t include the invoice, just the total. I had to ask for the invoice. Twice. Smells fishy. None of the discounts that were verbally agreed on were honored. I question the pricing. Salesperson admits she forgot to apply the discounts and that dining chairs were not included. I decide to not purchase the dining table. She was not happy. I hold my ground. I receive a new payment link with correct price. I make the payment. 3 days pass and I don’t hear from them about scheduling the delivery or anything. I text to ask. I’m told the loveseat has been sold to another customer after I already paid. They’ll ship another one from Oklahoma which will take a month. I’m disappointed but go along with it. We schedule delivery for the sofa. Next day I’m told that the sofa was also sold to another customer and that I should start looking for something else entirely. I’m pissed. I ask, how can you take my money only to sell to someone else? She blames me because I didn’t use the initial payment link to pay (the one with over $9000 total). I ask for a refund. I don’t hear back for 2 days. I get a call from the manager. They miraculously have the same sofa and loveseat in store. She asks if I want them still. I say yes thinking it’s for the price I already paid. I get a new payment link for a new total that’s more than $2000 over what I already paid. I still have not received the refund at this point by the way, but now I have a new payment request for a brand new total. I’m appalled at this point. I give up and again ask for the status of the refund. I’m told she canceled all my orders and I should get a call to confirm refund back to my card. I wait a day. No call. I call customer service at 6pm (website says open until 7pm) but they’re closed. I contact Chase and file a dispute. I finally got my refund after that. Still didn’t receive a call about the refund.
Bottom line is it seems evident the sales culture at Mathis Home is cutthroat and borderline unethical. I could easily put the entire blame on the salesperson, but I get the feeling that she’s just trying to make ends meet working for a company that fosters malignant sales tactics because it only cares about the bottom line in the revenue column....
Read moreTwo types of people leave reviews. They are either very satisfied, or really mad. I am the mad, but I am not here to nag. I am here to explain my situation with Mathis Home, so that I would do my consumer citizen's duty and also as a human being to introduce to you a bad business and see if you would want to join me in not buying from them, eventhough the same thing may not necessarily happen to you. I would appreciate your compassion and sense of consumer responsibility.
I purchased a dining set along side closer to 7000 dollars of murchandise from Mathis Home. A little over a year from a very long delayed delivery (months), a chair leg broke off while a guest of mine was sitting on it and the guest fell off (I had also a pregnant guest that day). Upon examining the broken piece, I noticed that there was paint markings all over the inside of the broken piece. This clearly indicates that the leg was cracked before the paint was applied at manufacturing (see photos). Mathis Home denied the claim to replace the chair (original value of 190 dollars, on sale for 100 dollars) due to an expired manufacturer warranty (they will give the same response to this review). My claim was that the chair is proven to be sold to me damaged and cracked which was not visible due to the dark nature of the leg to an unexpert eye. Secondly, I did not buy this from the manufacturer. This is a sham that all these middle guys use to divert responsibility. I paid extra money and bought it from Mathis Brothers, and not from the manufacturer, and they have sold it to me cracked/damaged/broken. It is actually Mathis Homes reeponsibility to check what they buy from their hidden manufacturer then earn a hefty commission from and not me. Manufacturer did not sell the item to me. They sold it to Mathis Home. So, any warranty dealing is between Mathis Home and the manufacturer then bought the item from to sell it to me with profit.
This chair probably costs a few ten dollars for Mathis Furniture. It is beyond me to even imagine a business being so cheap as to escalate this obvious fault of their own to this point and not satisfy a customer with just replacing a small item out of a 7000 dollar merchandise purchase. So, if you buy from them, you are dealing with that sort of a company. This company, with such service, will not survive much longer. Changing names wouldnt help either. I think, it is upon us, responsible consumers, to have a voice and defend each other as a unit to stop such dealings with any other consumer.
Thanks for reading me, and perhaps, not buying. My claim will continue...
Read moreBE VERY WARY OF MATHIS BROS FURNITURE COMPANY. THEY DO NOT APPRECIATE THEIR GOOD CUSTOMERS!!! YOU NEED TO READ VERY CAREFULLY THEIR EXTREMELY LENGTHY CONTRACT BEFORE PURCHASING.
September 6, 2024, I joined the Mathis Bros Rewards program, costing me $139, and spent $3500 on a Queen size bed set with nightstands sold to me by the most wonderful, professional, knowledgeable and helpful sales person I have ever known, Roger Pham! On September 9, 2024 it was delivered to my home. I also bought the Queen size mattress and was directed over to "Little Joe, the mattress expert," who very adamantly said I should buy the mattress cover made by Mathis. I told him I wasn't sure but I thought I had one already at home I had purchased at Costco when I thought I would buy the mattress there. However, I went ahead and purchased the Mathis cover for a whopping $250 since "Little Joe" said it could be returned if in fact I did have the Costco one at home. I had a 4-day family reunion at my home the end of September. After the reunion, I was quite sick at home for over a week. October 14, I went into Mathis Bros to return the mattress cover and they said it was non-returnable and anyway it was also 8 days past the 30 day return policy. I talked to the manager who said she would have to call a senior manager who then said no, I could not return the $250 mattress cover. The same day I purchased the Queen Bed and accessories, I also worked with Roger Pham who was helping me find an L-shaped sofa to be purchased after I got past all the preparations for my reunion. He drew out a diagram per my measurements and showed me several models that would work in my space. Again, Roger was so very helpful and professional. I told him I would be back in early October, after the reunion, to finalize the sofa purchase. I just met him there again today and he was so very, very apologetic about the mattress cover. He said I was right that "Little Joe" told me I could return the mattress cover. I told him I would love to buy the sofa from him but would not be able to at this point with the way I was treated by his company, Mathis Bros. I have owned and operated several businesses in Orange County, CA for over 45 years. We were always voted #1 in the OC because we offered quality products and most importantly great customer service. SHAME on Mathis Bros for not knowing how to treat a good and NEW customer of their company! I will not be doing business with them again, including another one of their companies,...
