I always come this particular Costco Faithfully every single month twice to three times. The one time I’m not at check out with my mother while I was looking for light bulbs. I get a call from my mother asking to speak with the cashier “Wendy” and she’s explaining to me the situation with the EBT system not working and my mother would have to pay cash. So, I’m like fine as I’m walking towards the checkout area. The cashier is saying well how much does she have because she has a box of meat and I was told by my mother that since the system is down she would wait and only purchase the water and two meat and the fruits and lightbulb in cash. So , I communicate that to the cashier and she’s getting an attitude telling me I’m aggressive and I don’t know who I’m talking to. I ask her to let’s get started because my mother already told you what she wanted to purchase in cash. She’s here trying to force my 80 year old mother to pay for everything because number one she doesn’t want to have to void out anything or have to put anything back. The fact that I’m hearing all this back talk while I’m trying to deescalate the problem she’s telling us while we are speaking our language that you should go to “Sam’s Club” if you can speak my language you may comment but if you don’t understand one thing we are speaking why would you push us to go to Sam’s Club?!
From that point I ask to speak with an manager. His name is David and he’s trying to deescalate the issue as well. I told him the situation cause I didn’t want to speak with Wendy anymore and I’m sure he didn’t want his employee to be saying comments like that and chasing people to shop at Sam’s club. From my understanding we can shop any place we please it’s none of your business where we shop and show our support to. I felt disrespected for my mother that I was upset and disappointed in the quality of service I’m so used to at Costco. The fact that Wendy did not ring anything up to begin with and was trying to force my mother to buy everything in credit card or cash because the system was down was way beyond me. She was arguing with an 80 year old women before she ran one single thing up. This was by far the worse experience I...
Read moreWelcome to Costco, I love you.
Costco stands out as a beacon of consumer satisfaction and efficiency in the vast sea of retail giants, often hailed for its unique business model that prioritizes quality, value, and customer service. The company's membership-based model fosters a sense of exclusivity and loyalty, while its bulk goods approach caters to the practical needs of individuals and families alike, aiming to provide the best products at the lowest possible prices. Furthermore, Costco's commitment to fair wages and benefits for its employees sets a commendable standard in an industry often criticized for undervaluing its workforce.
However, while Costco itself embodies many principles of responsible capitalism, the broader global capitalist system is fraught with complexities and contradictions. The relentless pursuit of profit has led to widespread environmental degradation, exacerbation of income inequality, and a tendency for large corporations to prioritize short-term gains over long-term sustainability and ethical considerations. The very essence of capitalism, which encourages competition and innovation, also inherently promotes a cycle of consumption and waste that is unsustainable at its core.
This dichotomy places Costco in an interesting light. On one hand, it exemplifies how a corporation can operate successfully while maintaining a degree of ethical integrity. On the other hand, it operates within a system that is inherently flawed and often detrimental to societal and environmental health. The challenge then becomes navigating this landscape in a way that promotes positive change within the framework of an existing system, pushing for a more sustainable and equitable approach to capitalism.
In conclusion, Costco's success and ethical business practices make it a standout example of what is possible within the confines of the capitalist system. However, it also serves as a reminder of the broader challenges that system presents. The future of capitalism, if it is to sustain itself and the world it operates in, must involve a fundamental reevaluation of its priorities and impacts, moving towards a model that values people and the planet as much as it...
Read moreHave two stars because I love Costco, but their customer service at this store is severely lacking. My boyfriend and I have an account, that I am an authorized member of- even purchased it through a school discount of mine, as I am a full time student. Have been in 100+ times, and for the first time when checking out was told I cannot use his card. I have done so countless times, as he’s better handling membership things. The lady asks for my ID to look up the account, tells me I am not a member or authorized to use the account and I can purchase one of my own or he has to be in person with me to use the account and has to come up there. Due to him being out of town for work all the time, I am always the one that goes to the store. I said there must be a mistake, as I am on the account? And I am not purchasing another one as I already have one. They tell me sorry about my luck, that I cannot purchase the $500 worth of items in my cart. I am rushing to get to the pharmacy that closes at the same time as Costco and I don’t have time for this. So I leave and call them after looking up online where it stated I am a member. She said sorry, it was an error on their part and that I just needed to go to the membership department to replace my card or download the app. Was asked why I made to return my cart and leave and not purchase items instead of doing this, as the lady was very rude and practically kicked me out. She was very rude and said she doesn’t know but it is what it is, sorry about it. I’ve studied Costco and their business model and this goes against everything that they were founded on and strive for. My cart was “already put back” even though they were slammed with limited staff and I had just left 3 minutes prior. I love the items Costco has, but questioning keeping my...
